I think it would rock to to have live enabled Cooperative. One reason is my wife isn't so good at Halo on the other hand my little bro 50 miles away rocks. Lets hear from the public.

Couldn't be much harder than 16+ player multiplayer.
...Well maybe

If you had an strong ping rate it probably wouldn't be that bad. Probably wouldn't be able to play with my brother over in Germany but my little bro near by or my neighbor down the block.

it would rock but all those covenant over the net could cause serious lag, maybe

the campaign levels are MUCH vaster and the brilliantly detailed AI (multiplied by how many covies there are) has to keep zooming between the xboxes. Im not computers expert but trust me...multiplayer and co-op are two VERY different things....why do you think you couldnt have system link co-op in the original halo????? and thats only across the room!

hopefully bungie could do it but dont get your hopes too high. multiplayer is fine anyway and campaign alone is very intense...

it's not like it has to send the graphics back and forth between the xboxs just positions.

Maybe Bungie would have liked to have system link coop in the first one and had to leave it out because of the time crunch. They did say they cut quite a bit because of the date they had to release on.

Because they had to rush the game to get it to the press in time for launch. That's why.

no i read a bungie interview and its due to technical reasons...

I could care less if there was online co-op. If they made one that'd be nice, but I doubt I would play it much. Especially if they keep the respawn like it is.

I found this interview quote from a bungie staff member

I’m really pleased that we were able to really get a true client/server networking architecture written that knows how to deal with latency and bandwidth. We’re tuning that core system to improve the experience now that we’re seeing how it works in “the real world”.

I wished coop could’ve been re-written for network play before launch. The cooperative model on the Xbox was designed to support split-screen, but not system link modes (like the competitive multiplayer modes in Halo do) – as a result, adding networked coop to Halo for Windows would have taken far more coding and architecture reworking, significantly pushing out the launch of the game.

If they could do it on a PC they could do it on Xbox it was a matter of time line. The technology is there they just needed the time.

Why do you guys agree with ashh??

AI is not sent over the net, nutsacks.. Just player locations, movements, weapons fire, hit detection, predictions (?) and that type of -blam!-. All of the AI could be handled locally by the server.. And the client boxes would play in said server world.

btw, I'm not a programmer of any kind.. but I'm pretty sure AI is handled locally by the server in online games.

Yes but they would have to dumb some parts of the environments down to make it work!

as a result, adding networked coop to Halo for Windows would have taken far more coding and architecture reworking, significantly pushing out the launch of the game.

"reworking" being a key word....bungie said that halo2 online co-op is "Unconfirmed" meaning that it IS a possibility! Seeing as halo2 uses less polygons it might support online co-op. But then again, the AI is far more advanced, theres more covenant and the game is just so much more chaotic that it may be alittle too much...

Why is that? Once again, enviornments are all rendered locally by the client box.. And when you aren't playing in split screen mode, then your client box has more power, in a sense - because it's only rendering one screen.. And not two.

Like I said, I'm no computers expert guy (obviously by what i just said<--) but I read an article interviewing bungie and I've basically just relayed pretty much everything it said (if my memory of it is correct) Ask a moderator about this, Im pretty sure shishka will know about this kind of stuff and Im pretty sure hell tell online co-op its unconfirmed too.

I have a friend whos on xbox live and if online co-op is in, GREAT i wont have to go round there to play but Im just trying to tell you what I think after reading the artcle.

I think that its difficult because it has to send all of that info, the environments, the AI the positions and crap ALL OF IT from the local player to the remote player and back...It has to do alot of exchanging...but like i said, im no computer expert... Multiplayer is probably easier because the maps arent as big and there is no AI to transfer...but again...im no expert I dont want you to quote me on any of this..

Ash, Im going to have to disagree with you. Play Rainbow 6 3 on Xbox live and up to 4 players can play cooperatively all the levels over xbox live and it works phenomenally. Unfortunately, I believe that Bungie is so secretive that they wont confirm it, but it is definitely doable and Halo 2 would suffer tremendously without it

Rainbow Sixs co-op uses small maps and only has like 5 AI turned on at once though, thats why its so possible. Watch the halo2 2003 trailer and tell me which is more action-packed and chaotic, rainbow six or halo 2?

oh well it's no biggie. I just hope they are able include it. But it won't make or break the game in my opinon.

How about this though would you be willing to wait 2-3 more months just for this feature? If they said they could do it but they needed more time. Hmm a tough one but I think I could wait...
