i happen to suffer from a bit of the wanderlust. i've traveled to japan, china, the philipines, new zealand, and most recently i spent 6 months backpacking across the most beautiful natural wonder of the world - australia. but i've noticed that most people of our generations don't share the same zest for seeing the world. actually, allow me to correct my previous statement. most americans of our generations.
i've met many other travelers on my escapades, many of which i'm happy to say i've made friends with. but startling to me was the absense of american youth. in fact, canada aside (canadians make for some wild adventures), i don't think i ever saw a single other young north american traveler. mind you, i stay away from the tourist traps of the world.
this got me to wondering why more american youth elect not to see the world. i can understand that many out there feel that they've got their life already planned out. finish high school, get into a good college, find the perfect job, maybe get married and have kids. i suppose there's nothing wrong with that, but it's not for me.
i guess i was just curious to know if anyone else has plans for getting out there, and seeing the world. plans - not dreams. dreams always seem to come to fruition at the ripe old age of 65. i'm actually planning on visiting our friends in europe. i'm trying to put together a month to a month and a half, to go stomping around over there. i'd actually really like to go to africa, but things over there are always so hairy.
and please feel free to let me know why or why not you want to travel.
