Hey guysI've been shopping for motherboards/cpu's specifically Athalon 64 3400's. I'm pretty much looking for mobo/cpu combos to save some extra bucks. However, all of the boards that support the 3400 can only use DDR400. Is this normal with AMD compatable boards?, because I kind of want a bit faster memory. Or am I just being retarded?
Heyyo,DDR400's plenty fine. DDR400 usually is PC3200, which's like, the standard ram these days. Not too expensive, but runs fine. I have 2 sticks of Samsung 512MB PC3200 DDR400 ram, and it's great. The difference in ram quality ain't as major as for example videocards. The difference is probably like, in the miliseconds, so not very observable to the eye, but only in technicalities. Here's exactly my ram, and where I bought it:(NOTE: This's a Canadian store, so prices are obviously in Canadian Dollars...)http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=9545&vpn=SAMSU NG3200-512M&manufacture=SamsungGet 2 of those for a total of 1 GB of ram? and you'll be able to handle all new games easily. ;)
Thanks. For a Halo:PC forum I get a lot of help with this stuff :P
PC3200 is the fastest ram supported by AMD socket motherboards that use DDR-SDRAM. I think DDR2 is now at PC4000 or something (Whatever 533 mhz is) But that only works with very high end motherboards.[Edited on 1/1/2005 4:09:23 AM]
The only motherboards I've seen that utilize it are P4 boards. Even the new Asus board for athalon 64's/fx's support up to DDR400.
Seriously, DDR 400 is fine, especially if you have 1GB of the stuff. My comp runs every game on full settings. Including HL2, Halo, FarCry, Homeworld2... so yeah basically anything you could throw at it.
