I've clicked the button twice by mistake, while trying to reply to a post. My question is, what happens when you cause a false alarm?

I enjoy reporting threads and see them being locked or moved in matter of minutes but I hate it when I miss-click, I feel like I'm taking moderators to the wrong thread and they will get mad at me!

I created a thread because I believe other members might be interested as well.

Trying something once will increace your chances of success, because you tried it. Try someting twice, and your chances increase yet again - seeing as you've done it. Try something a few thousand times, and your chances of success is exponentially increased; this increase would likely provide success every time

Well, there is a pop-up for a reason. To confirm that you wish to report a thread. I know Internet Explorer and Firefox both have pop-ups, I don't know about the others. In any case, the system can most likely tell if it is by mistake or not, due to frequency and reliability.

I'll be on my own side.

I'm sure there are criteria that need to be met before the moderators are alerted, such as a certain number of reports or something like that. It would make sense as an anti-abuse measure since there are probably morons out there who think it's funny to abuse the report feature. The moderators have to sort through all those reports, so there must be some sort of anti-abuse feature.

They folded out of the system immediately
after I received the message, without so
much as a "Thanks for saving us from
becoming plasma on Tau Ceti, Durandal".

A couple accidental report as spams probably wont hurt you that much.

I'm sure the mods will just be like "WTF? Why was this reported?" then either do nothing about it, or ban you for wasting their time :P

So what you're saying is that the alert that if you click 'OK' the thread will be reported as spam, and it doesn't show as a pop-up?? As soon as you miss-click it, the post is automatically reported? You don't see this?

Nope, I used to see that about a week ago, but now as soon as I click the button the thread/post is reported. But I guess you guys are right, one report may not go directly to the moderators.

Recon, where are you when we need your words full of wisdom?

I remember when I used this space to put cool looking links to my chapters back in the day. I don't even know why I'm using it now. Why are you even reading this? You must be interested in me. Still reading?

I have clicked "Report as spam" a couple of times myself, actually. I believe that whoever recieves the report will be able to read over the reported post before classifying it as "Spam" or not. One report shouldn't do much anyways depending on the severity of the post.

I'm sure if a certain user seems to have a habit of 'false reports', he'll be dealt with accordingly.

One or two slipups (even per week) probably don't kill you.

It'd be hilarious if tomorrow your post said: Anonymous User (Deleted).

Was that for us to test the button?

Also, no pop-up for me either...

I just reported him and I DID get the pop-up.

I have pop-ups blocked and it still shows. (Which I prefer)

The "report as spam" button is a melee to the base of the skull, not a spray and pray weapon.

Bungie.net is on my allow list now and so now I can see the confirmation dialogue once again. Long live Recon!

Thank you for clearing my concerns.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

I'd imagine that if you don't confirm with the pop-up, then it won't flag that post as spam. I don't honestly though, so perhaps it still reports the post. If there is a pop-up, I don't see why it would report it. So, if my axiom is correct, you don't have anything to worry about unless you click the confirmation.

Even still, unless you're clearly trying to abuse the system, you don't really have anything to worry about. So drink and be merry. Or in this case...um...click and be...content?
