I just got a new PC, so after I was gettting everything setup to play online, a message appears after I look for an update and it said this:

"You must have administrator privileges to download this required patch."

I have no idea what this means. I tryed downloading the patch several times and I still got the same message.

I would be thankful for help.

First, go into your control panel, click user accounts, select your account, and change your account to an administrator, you can't download or install files on your computer if your on a limited account.

AMD Phenom 9500 (2.2GHz) Quad-Core
4 GB PC2 6400 Ram
(Temp) XFX GeForce 8400GS (512MB)
32" LCD HDTV running at 1366x768
HITACHI 160GB & Western Digital 500GB SATA II HDD

That won't make much of a diff if you are the admin. I had the same problem. What you have to do is "Right-click" on halo 1 and go to "Run as Administrator". That should work. The only problem I had after that was when it started installing the update chktrust.exe freezes up every time.

I just now did what you said and I downloaded the update.

BUT, now I have another message that appears when I go to "online" and its saying:

"An error has occurred trying to contact the gamespy master server".

Then after a few times of trying to search for a match I didn't get that message AND I couldn't find any matches.

I never had these problems before...

Try waiting exiting to the main menu. Wait ten seconds. Then try again. I've had the problem often, so letting the computer take a quick breather should fix the problem temporarily. I do not believe there is any long term solution.

Ok, I did that two times and both times work. Strange, I never had this problem on my last PC.

Thanks for the help guys.

Well, I guess it would depend on what PC you have. (Dude, don't get a Dell. Seriously, my school has them and they suck). If you have Vista, you might have to right click on the Halo icon and select Run as Administrator. Or you might have to do the same, except go into the C drive and then Microsoft Games or w/e, and look for Halo. Also, make sure it says "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo\halo.exe". If it doesn't say that, or if it's Halo 2 you need (if you need the thing for Halo 2, ask someone else, I don't have that one), then.. well.. -shrug-. Hope any of this helps.

[edit[ Haha, my bad. It says Halo 1. Whoops. New task for me: Learn to Read.
