The shotgun does use skill, if you fire too much you waste ammo, you must learn patience with it. I rock at it.

Personally, I don't find any of them cheap. I feel Bungie made the game balanced enough. If you think a gun is cheap, you're probably getting killed by it a lot, so find ways to not get killed. Example: If you think the rocket launcher is cheap, learn how to move out of the way if the person shooting at you is new at it, and if they're good, learn to take them out before they get it, or take it for yourself. Practice can solve a lot of things in Halo.

I think people are calling one or the other cheap(in context of CQB) because they only recognize one way to assess situation. Most of us distinguish between range bands, but some seem to have trouble grasping other equally important aspects of a combat situation that can be categorized.
Most of us know by now that the rocket launcher bests the shotgun one-on-one, but taking it into a shotgun furball between five people is suicide 'cause it reloads and recycles so slow. Besides classifying an engagement as short range or long range, you can classify it as duel or multi-sided, controlled or ugly mess, direct(eg: sniping) or indirect(eg: throwing grenades into a bunker), etc., etc.

I suggest special weapon setups for one-on-one matches, either with only quick-kill stuff or no quick-kill stuff. When you play 2-player split-screen for lack of other people, you both gravitate toward the best dueling weapons available and ignore everything else.

I dsilike the Needler. Though, I've never played anything but SinglePlayer, Co-op, and 1v1 Multiplayer. But what I think is cheapest is... nothing. If someone's using the 'cheap' weapon, use the weapon that counters it. As far as I can see, that something will just about always exist.

PLAAAAASMA PISTOL! Too inacurate at long range, and at melee close range. It doesnt go good mixed with any gun, and is only good on Hogs (for shield depletion)

johny joe-cheap means unfair. the plasma pistol is not cheap. it takes skill to use. the rocket launcher is cheap,it n00bs can use it.

needler!, anyone carrying a needler is a prime target, even an enemy with a AR can kill a person carring a needler, just move to the right or left, (strafing the needlers). and lay a few rounds into the enemy and run to him and bat him with the butt of the gun, when hes reloading his crappy weapon (which is slow at melee attacks, and the pink pins shows up like a little sniper beacon!)...
making this the cheapest weapon.

rocket luancher/ needler, because the reload time on the rockets are pants, and its too easy to dodge..... also cheap.

thank u, yawn

I would have to say that it is the plasma pistol simply because they are in high abundance in every level. There probably isn't one level in halo you can't find a plasma.

You dont make a gun so it requires skill to use . the less skill required the better it kills faster You cant say i dont like it because its easy to use. The easier the better. The shotgun is an excellent weapon. you want a weapon that is quick and easy to use not that requires skill

So what you're trying to say is that the sniper rifle is a cheap weapon, even though you have to be good enough to shoot someone in the head with it.

I'd have to say the shotgun.

Heh...You're not the only one.

Shotgun is the best weapon to use in close quarters combat. unless you can aim the pistol like a Frag Master...Still, it only takes one shot to take anything down with the shotgun.

What are you talking about? I always keep one as my primary weapon unless there is flood. Learn to use it right and you are unstoppable. I did and I haven't lost a game of free for all slayer for about 5 months (and I have a lan party every weekend almost)

The Assault Rifle. It's SO weak and inaccurate!!!!
I dont like it much either. But it is fun to use on legendary because it actually presents a challenge instead of using weapons like the plasma rifle and needler to kill the elites which is frickin easy.

You've got to be kidding me. the needler? A Cheap weapon? ::falls over laughing:: it's pretty solid if you've got the lead over someone, as you can fill them full of needles and even after you die, you get the kill, but I don't see anything 'cheap' about it.

The Plasma Pistol cheap? Not really. Pretty accurate, but it over heats after seven or so quick shots. The Over Charge does not hurt health that much, and then it has to cool for a few seconds anyhow. The Plasma Pistol was designed to counter-balance the Over Shield.

The Assault Rifle? Blah. Not cheap by any stretch. It has to be mid to close range to hit anything consistantly. Sometimes a descent weapon for knocking someone out of 'zoom' mode, but not really 'cheap.'

The shotgun. Again, not cheap. You have to be point blank to kill something in one shot, and even then there's a small chance taht they'll manage to dodge enough of the buckshot to remain standing. Solid weapon in close-quarters though. Good for levels like The Longest and such, but it's not really cheap, becasue once you get out of short range it can't hit with much accuracy at all. Again, at extreme ranges can knock someone out of 'zoom' mode without having to aim in exactly.

The plasma rifle. This might be considered a little 'cheap' but not really. This is a Close quarters gun like the shot gun. It has the ability to preactically freeze an enemy in place, but you have to hit them consistantly, and to do that you have to be pretty close. shorter range than the Plasma pistol, over heats quite quickly, and as frustrating as being 'frozen' is, I still wouldn't say it's a cheap gun.

The Sniper Rifle. You have to have pretty good aiming skills to use this in moveing close combat, because unlike the toher weapons this is a pin-point accurate weapon with very little shot drift. At long and extreme ranges it is much more useful as long as you see your enemy before he sees you. One or two hit kills, not really cheap because it takes a while to learn to aim it well at the closer ranges.

The Rocket Launcher. This weapons is just mean. Shoot it at the ground near an opponent at short to medium range and he's dead. Period. Just don't get killed yourself. At long and extreme ranges it's only good if the opponent does not see it coming. If a sniper is zoomed in on someone and you fire a Rocket at them they're dead. EXCELLENT anti-vehcile as it was intended. Cheap? not really. carries two shots per clip and reloads slower tahn any other gun, not to mention the Melee attack is incredibly slow as well.

The Pistol. I dunno, if there is a cheap gun it is this one. The shot drift is just enough, and not too much, to make head capping at any range (except maybe extreme) pretty easy. Three shots in the head from this gun, you die. Heck, two shots to the body, on in the head, you die, and are left on the ground wodnering where the heck that came from. And unlike the sniper rifle, no trail is left that your buddies can know which direction to take cover. Still, I guess it takes a bit of skill to learn to use. I think my opinion may be a bit biased since I went to a HALO tourny and got murdered by this weapon, mostly because I didn't know just how powerful it is. After that I've practiced with it like a week and significantly improved (I think.) Seems rather easy to learn, and easy to use, not that it is partcularly bad, but it reloads fast, has a descent melee attack, and has a twelve round magazine, and only take three to five shots to kill someone at long to point-blank range. All things considered, the Pistol is the most lethal weapon in HALO, wether or not it is 'cheap' I leave up to you.

I dont get why I havent seen people put down the Rocket Launcher. Im trying to run somebody over when they start laughing manically, holy crap-but its too late they went suicide and launched a rocket killing us both.
I cant belive I missed the post above me, whoops!

The needler. It bounces off of shields and vehicles, and doesn't do very much damage. You can't carry much ammo for it, and I can't think of a situation in the game where I would want to have a needler.

P.S. sgt.Johnson RULES!

Cheapest meaning most useless or cheapest meaning to easy to kill enemies with? If its cheapest meaning most useless I would say shotgun because its only good withflood If its most useless meaning to easy to kill enemies with I would say the rocket launcher.

The cheapest gun, as already mentioned in a previous person's post, is possibly the plasma rifle. All it does is freeze people, and guess what? The plasma pistol can do the same thing! All it takes is a quick finger(s). Thus not only is it cheap, but pointless.

It is not innacurate at long range it follows the target what the hell are you talking about. I love the needler and always have it on hand I always shoot a salvo of those little -blam!-es into the enemy literally emptying my ammo into an opponent usually an elite and blowing out his chest cavity. Then I simply pick up some more ammo because its always laying around. The sniper doesn't do anything to a flood thats the only thing wrong with it. and you are not a -blam!- to kill enemies with a sniper its smarter to do it that way then to run in like mr. hero and get blown up by plasma.

  • 06.14.2004 6:25 PM PDT

id have to say the shotgun 'cause when the flood get a hold of it ur dead. but the one i hat most of all is the fuel rod gun, that thing packs a punch!!!

The needler, at first I said the SPNKr but I change my mind, the SPNKr isn't enough to kill
a person in one shot if there in a vehicle but the sniper rifle is the best weapon for dispatching a ghost at full speed. Or a tank for that matter, but the only thing abut the needler that makes it suck is that it only efficient at nose to nose close quarters combat, and only then will you have to run from the explosion that the needler produces. Then too
I don't like the shotgun that much either. You want accuracy? The best shot possible?
You'll have to be close enough to kiss you target for a devastating shot, the cheapest
weapon may not be on there but the melee attack to the back is unless you got the weakest
weapon, then you hit the stealth and blam! Another kill!
