Controlling fission events without incident since May, 2012.

I know the thread name isn't perfect, but it's pretty much the idea.
Although I don't spend very much time in the Halo 3 related forums as well as the Halo 3 forum itself, I recently noticed that the files forums are, disgusting, to say the least. I'm not blaming the ninjas (Who wants to poke that place with a ten foot pole?) or the admin(s) (I don't think you could have anticipated this.).
I'm here to suggest a solution, and to have the community try to think of more solutions. I've tossed ideas around ranging from an automatic forum bot blacklisting for saying the word "bump" in those forums, to allowing a user one post per thread, but I'm just one person, and my box isn't letting me far from it at the moment.
Ideas I liked that I've heard from others would include not allowing people to post in a thread in those forums, and just allowing it to fade through the pages with time. If you have any creative ideas, go ahead, let us hear it.

Honestly, I beleive the bump rule is a little (lot) too strict.... I don't think a blacklisting bot would work, it would be too hard and different variables would completely be ignored. I've looked at the file forums too, it horrifies me. Once again I will but my filter idea back on the table........

How so is it disgusting? Because people say "bump" in their own threads? The worst thing about forums are trolls and spammers etc, but illogical community members aren't to blame. You know they are wrong, and if they need a blacklisting they will get one. But that's what a forum is, discussions . Also, there are other forums where the people aren't so bad. If you don't like that forum, go to another one.

Or....

<_<

go to war

Because it's ridiculous, it's not sharing, it's whoever screams their screenshot's/map's/clip's name the loudest without getting their thread locked. Illogical community members are to blame, it is their actions, it was their choice to either not read or ignore the forum rules, and you must take credit for what you have done.

Oh, and as far as going to another forum, yeah I do. But it's supposed to serve it's purpose for the small sliver of time I need to use a forum for it's intended purpose.

Then...it is final, all moderators are already suited...

We must fight.

I'm not suggesting a senseless forum war. I think the majority of us know how those turn out. I'd simply like to see some action taken against those that refuse to accept rules that are put in place to keep a forum orderly. But a magical fix always helps too.

I agree that a bot wouldn't work, but do you seriously think ninjas are too strict when it comes to bumping? If anything they're not strict enough.

You should have banned your roommate.

And until they find a body... he is simply "missing".

Oh wow. Your a killer!
My thoughts have changed about you. =P

The problem in the file share forum is two headed.

1. People are very passionate about their pics/videos and Forge gametypes.

2. Massive amounts of traffic.

Combine these two factors, and you get a lot of people desperate to have their file shares viewed, which leads to attempts at skirting or bending the rules. I really don't have concrete answers other than to let the ninjas deal with the bumpers, spammers and attention whores as they see fit.

I don't like people blatantly bumping, but I can definitely understand where they're coming from. They spend hours and hours making what they think is an awesome game.........they come to the file share forum..........make a thread......and 10 seconds later it's on page two with no responses.

Well, broken forums aren't a big issue right now. The only big issue right now is mainly the people who are begging for the Recon armour permutation and the constant "spamming" going on in many forums. If only there was a guide for members that was mandatory for them to read. I mainly suggest that if you see a forum topic that is ridiculous, off forum topic, or possibly discrminating, don't post in it and save yourself from being blacklisted.

And the reason it's like that to begin with is the massive amounts of advertising that is "slyly" inserted. The cycle continues.

Spamming is never ending, it can't be fixed, you can only attempt to control it. A mandatory guide has been brought up time and time again, but to no avail. Oh, and yes, the file forums are kind of a big issue. It is through them that you can share what you have created in Bungie's current game, and it is in a dismal position at the moment.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

I think you're over-reacting a little bit. The Files Forum is a bit of a handful no doubt, but they aren't going to be dropped. Worst case scenario, as I see it, is they get ignored, and updates, fixes aren't seen as important.

On the bright side, Bungie.net is showing signs of advancement. We're seeing more community involvement, personal initiative is starting to be seen more and more. I'm much more interested in fostering this than trying to clean up every bit of sludge that lines the streets. That can wait for later.

Worse Forum Competition

Files Forum
vs
Halo 3 Forum.

Files Forum, there's like five of 'em. Which means a lot more 'ground' to cover. While in the Halo 3 Forum it's 'Click' you're done.

As for how to 'fix a broken forum', simply report any thread that is violating any rule as spam. That is what must be done, and what should be done. If you see someone bump in the files forum, report 'em. If you see someone advertise their stuffz, report 'em. This is the only real way anything will ever happen. Sure, there aren't many mods, but that's what the 'Report Spam' button is there for; to help both them and the rest of the community. Nobody can be in two places at once, and the mods aren't an exception (Okay, maybe with the exception of Recon), so the community must help to be their eyes and ears.

In short, instead of asking for more, utilize the tools that have already been given.
