Okey... so if Call of Duty 4 is so much better than Halo 3 why does so many of you spend time in a Halo forum, when you could play your beloved Cod?

I think you should burn your halo disc for wanting something this skill free, host dependent, repetative, stupid, and overall bad. I hope you burn in the hottest fires of hell for presenting such a terrible idea. In conclusion, jesus died for everyone but you.

Ninja Academy

Halo 3 is popular and will continue to be popular even if people go play COD4. I dont think COD4 is a very good game, but then again thats my opinion, i think Mass Effect beats Halo3 and COD4, though with no multiplayer, i will go back to Halo3, as most gamers will trickle back to Halo3.

hey roaddog.

just for a mere day i'd like to not see some idiot like yourself ruin the point of this forum with Game vs. Game bull-blam!-.

What's a forum without arguments? =)

True, but is it necessary to make repeated threads about the same Game vs. Game topic? (I don't mean new games every thread either)

Especially when the argument will never be resolved. It is like asking if in Team Slayer the Red Team are the good guys or the bad guys.
What game is "better" is 100% opinion. It was a great year in games and a lot of heavy hitters were up for awards. Why don't we all just celebrate that and hope every year is so packed with good games that nobody can agree on what the winner should be.
When there is a hands-down winner, my thought is that that would indicate a lack of competition.

  • 12.28.2007 10:22 AM PDT

I suppose the question could then be - What are you going to be playing online in 1-3 years time?

If that is the case, given what Halo 2 has already proven, it'll be Halo 3. Just because a gameing website, or magazine says it so, doesn't neccessarily make it true. Just like everyone on here, its just an opinion, and totally subjective.

i'm soooo glad you can get 10 other people to see things your way.
last i checked though, erm... gaming wasn't about seeing how many people you can get to see things your way. it was about just sitting down and enjoying what game you like most and not complaining or having a personal problem with the one you least approve of.

  • 12.28.2007 10:25 AM PDT

a man is only as strong as his gun..........well i have a rocket launcher.

Now now kiddies, everyone has their own opinion. If you hate Halo 3 for reasons beyond that of God knows, then hate Halo 3. If you hate COD4 for who knows what, go ahead and hate it.

But when I say this I think I say this for most people in the gaming world (fanboys of both parties stfu >_<)...Halo 3 and COD4 are pretty good games, both have advantages over the other, both have disadvantages. No game's perfect, but both games are as close as perfect gets.

stfu up already if your going to complain about halo 3 vs COD4. COD4 is garbage and will never have the fan base that halo does and will never be as good.

FOR ALL OF YOU WHO LOVE COD4 ENJOY IT WHILE YOU CAN BECAUSE ONCE MARCH HITS AND BATTLEFIELD BAD COMPANY HIT THE STORES EVERYONE IS GOING TO SAY CALL OF DUTY WHAT????

P.S. I will take your free halo copy so I can sell it back to you in a few months.
Dude, you took the words right out of my mouth. CoD4 (as good as it is) is still just a passing craze. Halo 2 weathered four years of "Halo killers" and 3 is going to do the same thing.

I can just see it now: next year, this board will be full of "Killzone 2 >>>> Halo 3"
The year after that: "OMG CoD5 PWNZ HALO!!!!"
Followed by "Halo 3 sux, GoW2 rulez"
Anf finally "Halo 4 is awesome!" ......that one I might agree with.

If CoD had vehicles in it, there is no doubt in my mind that it would crush Halo 3. As it stands, it is really fun racking up kills on a Ghost or mowing people down with the Warthog, so Halo will have that edge no doubt.

Something else I noticed, CoD's graphics are freaking AMAZING. Not so with Halo 3. Wonder why that it is. Believe me, gameplay is where it's at. But all things being equal, CoD is much better looking.

Nice list! We see here that Halo 3 did not win GOTY, however, it is rightfully lauded as incorporating the most innovative design elements into the game. COD4 offers little to no innovation - yeah, they were 10/10 with the stuff they did, but the stuff they did was *yawn*.

Halo 3 gave us Forge, an object editor that is unprecedented in a console FPS. Does it have its problems? Hell yeah. But Bungie put it in to show the future of online gaming - making and swapping maps with other players.

Same with saved films. I don't know of a console FPS with a similar feature. It's far from perfect too, but the fact that Bungie put it in their game shows that they are truly advancing the technology of video games.

Plus, like Strike Force said, I'd rather play the Multiplayer Game of the Year than the overall game of the year. IGN, the most reliable gaming website, has said it - COD4 plays second fiddle to Halo 3's multiplayer. End of story.
I honestly can't consider it innovative when you take standard features for PC games and put them on a console game. The only reason we haven't seen these features on console games before is because console gamers don't demand it (hopefully, Halo 3 changes that). If anything, these features were implemented because Bungie ran out of ideas and started looking into already well-established standard PC game features. And despite that, Bungie still delivered these featured half-ass and flawed. That doesn't make me think Bungie was either innovative or deserving of GotY with that kind of product.

Fact remains, it's never been done on a console. Future FPS games are going to include stuff like this as basics, and I think we have Halo 3 to thank for that. And I don't think the features aren't half-assed. Forge could use some additions, and the video-capping needs fast-forwarding, but they are both very solid in their own right.

COD4 offers no innovation whatsoever. That's even ok - they do the basics, but they do them right. Still, its certainly not going to go down in history as a pivotal gaming milestone.

In an era where the Wii is showing us a different take on consoles, Half-Life 2 is showing us the future of physics manipulation in games, multiplayer games are showing us the prevalence of networking and social play, and Guitar Hero is showing us the applications of perhiprials, I think that innovation is key. I also think that the GOTY award should go to a game that retains the solid-ness of the old gaming standards - gameplay, replayability, graphics - while adding an element of unprecedented innovation.

Just my take:)
The PC gaming standard is miles ahead of the console standard. Xbox Live has been making leaps and bounds to catch up. Halo has done nothing but help the situation. We definitely owe Bungie and MS at least sincere recognition for it.

But just because these features are helping the future doesn't mean that they deserve GotY now if they aren't fun now. If you read my post up a few posts from the one you quoted, I said that Halo logically deserves GotY, but for different reasons. I also said that Halo 3's features fizzle out of reality when the gameplay goes on broken.

I truthfully believe that Shadowrun deserves GotY, but it's not realistic for a major game news organization to give it that award. Journalism can be a tricky business.

Lol, CoD4 actually has some of the best graphics in the game industry. Especially when compared to Halo 3, Halo 3's looks like a joke. Not to mention the slower paced frame rate.

some crap joke, it's not even funny

Notice "Best Online Multiplayer Game'>

COD 4s single player was about 10* as good as Halo 3s, well twice as good. It was a lot more intense, and felt better. But I personally don't like the multiplayer, it doesn't even use a skill based ranking system and my first game as a level 1 was played wtih level 4 prestige people.

I know how you feel, with your closing statement. However, that's where CoD4 shines, imo. If you're paired against a full clan, a stacked team, or some host that lives across the globe that causes lag, you can simply quit out of that game and find a new one. You aren't deranked or penalized for leaving the game because you got the short end of the stick.

That's why I can't stand playing Halo 3 multiplay. No matter how laggy the game is, quitting out still penalizes you. Why should I be penalized because some guy in Zimbabwe got host of the game?

As for those that say CoD4 only has 200,000 players or so. It's true, most of the time you'll see anywhere between 70,000-130,000 players online at any given time. However, when looking at the leaderboards, I have friends that are ranked at the 1,500,000 mark. That's on the 360 alone. Factor in the PS3 and PC versions and you're looking at probably 4 million copies sold (roughly).

You won't get any argument from me there. CoD4 looks amazing. But people who think that the graphics in Halo 3 are lacking are missing the point. The scope of Halo's levels are unmatched. I dare anyone to find a level in any other shooter that can compare to something like "The Covenant" or "Tsavo Highway." Halo 3's maps are HUGE. Did we lose a little detail because of that? Yeah. Does it matter? Ummm... no.

agreed.

There are more to graphics than texture. Yeah COD4 has some of the best textures, but Halo 3 does have better water effects--the water moves when objects go into it.

Wow, it says: Halo 3 forum, not the CoD4 forum. Seriously, go rank up by getting 1 kill by shooting through walls.

Both games are incredibly different, the only thing that they have in common is that they both are FPS.

Halo 3 is pussification. The game was tailored to the casual gamer at the expense of player potential. Over-balancing the weapons, slowing the weapon switching speed and over-cluttering the maps was done to appease the complaints of the weak players from Halo 2 and the unrealistic wishful thinking balance fanatics.

A game that caters to the weak and misguided deserves nothing but contempt.
Sadly, this post is Quoted for Truth...

Bungie is stepping on their fans to make money, and now it's catching up with them.

The problem is, Halo 3's fanbase consists generally of casual gamers.

Interesting, isn't it? No wonder so many people are still playing it, loving it, enjoying it, and a small part is complaining on the forums about it. The majority of topic starters on these forums don't really represent the community as a whole. If anything, they're the few rioters that exist.
