Just so you all know, the PC that has the DS on it doesn't have H2 installed on it (since that PC can't support its graphics), and so I'm not sure if that's the issue that prevents me from connecting properly, but I tried it on a PC with H2 installed on it and it still had the same issue.

(This is on the PC that doesn't have H2 installed on it). First off, I set up my dedicated server: start up as service then reboot PC, key, autosignin, and playlist with accordance to the H2DS Readme. And I set it up so my Windows firewall would allow UDP port 3074. But when I use the STATUS command, it kept saying "reconnecting" permanently. So I went to "http://www.microsoft.com/halo2/", and went to support and clicked on the link "Games for Windows - LIVE support and updates" which redirected me to "http://www.gamesforwindows.com/en-us/Support/live/pages /default.aspx". I clicked on the file that said " Download the Latest Update (December 2007)", and installed it. After installing it, my server wouldn't allow me to login as h2admin, so I deleted the service and re-created it. I set up the server all over again, but when I used the STATUS command, it kept saying "offline - waiting to reconnect" permanently.

Today, the PC wouldn't connect to the internet, so I shut down and disconnected both my modem and router, waited about 30 secs, and reconnected 'em and turned 'em on. Now my PC connected to the internet, and the server now permanently says "reconnecting" when I use the STATUS command.

If there is anything I missed or didn't do, or if you know the solution, I would gladly appreciate it if you posted them. Otherwise please don't post useless things like "Yeah I have the same problem too", since it wastes post space and causes more posts to read.

When i was running a H2 server on my spare rig i had the same problem. What i ended up finding was that my computer time was wrong, as soon as i fixed the time and date and restarted the server it worked just fine after that. So make sure your Pc time and date are right.

I checked (both) computers, and time and date are correct; they are programmed to internet-time-synchronize with "time.windows.com".

No I haven't tried TCP/3074 I'll do that now.

For my router, it's a D-Link AirPlus Xtreme G Wireless Router, model DI-624.

After opening TCP/3074, I tried running my server, but after trying to login as "h2admin -live", I failed to connect since "the service may not be started". Using the RUN command, I ran "msconfig", and it says that my DS service has been stopped. What caused that, and how do I restart it without deleting and re-creating the service?

Just type in services in your search bar in your start menu, it will bring up the services. Then you should find it in there, then just start it back up.

@ Freemorph - You need to change your port numbers for halo itself. The server and game cant be the same ports.

Ok I started H2DS service back up, but what makes it stop running in the first place?

When I still use STATUS, it keeps saying "reconnecting" and "offline - waiting to reconnect", so I tried turning off Windows Firewall, and it permanently kept saying "offline - waiting to reconnect".

Just by chance did you oped up the required ports in your router also? If not you need to, here is a guide for your router i believe.

No actually I didn't open the ports on my router. I was never aware of this feature.

On my router's firewall rules page, there's a bit I'll need help with. There are 2 lines, which say "Source" and "Destination". Under them are 3 headings: Interface (*, LAN, WAN), IP Range Start, and IP Range End (for Interface, asterisk can be used as an option). What should I put under Interface and the IPs? (I'd use a screenshot but I don't know how to load a picture into the post)

I tried putting my own IP into all four IP spaces, but the DS server keeps saying "reconnecting" when I did.

By the way the link you posted recommended looking in my router's manual for assistance, but my router never came with a manual, only a quick start guide.

And that link is not for my router model... but similiar concepts.

The only tab in your router you should be changing is the port forwarding. I'm not familiar with that router so if you can get a screenshot then upload it to Photobucket then just post up the link, ill take a look.
Sorry about the link, the page i was looking at showed your router, but it linked to that one but as it turns out it was the same screen shots, lol.

There is no "port forwarding" option anywhere on the page.

I believe the tab that says Virtual servers should be about the same as the port forwarding tab.

So I put my IP into "Private IP" and 3074 into "Private and Public Port"?

No, not really. But my server still keeps saying "reconnecting".... I even turned off my Windows Firewall and it still only keeps permanently saying "reconnecting".

When I use "ipconfig" in my Command Prompt, instead of saying "IP Address", it says "IPv4 Address". I don't know if this makes a difference or not.

As long as it starts with 192 its the right one i believe. When i type ipconfig on mine i see 2 sets of IPv4 numbers. The one you need to direct the virtual server to is the one that starts with 192. Also did to open both TCP/UDP 3074?

On the Virtual server? Yeah I put 3074 in the two Port spaces.

And the IP starts with 192.

From what everyone is saying i guess Live is down right now so you might have to play the waiting game utill MS fixes things. With how its setup you should be fine once they fix live.
Once MS fixes things and if you still have problems just let me know. One way to find out when Live is working again is to try to connect on your other computer with H2.

You mean connect to LIVE on Halo 2 the game? If that's what you mean, then I can connect fine and the server still doesn't want to connect.

I'm wondering if you have to update the DS. I've seen threads where people say that the DS needs an update before it can be utilized properly. Or is that all covered with the LIVE updates?

You might be right about updating the server, i havent run the server since the update. Go to MS site and click on support for the updates.
