Over at HFCS we're constantly hard...

Wait...
What?

First off, sorry if this has already been asked. If it has just one reply will suffice and then the thread can die.

Anyways, if you mark the original post in a thread as spam, is it alright to mark other posts from other users in the same thread as spam ? I was just in a Halo 3 forum thread where there were several users being entirely ridiculous and I marked all those offending users' first post as spam, but now I look back and wonder if I was just flooding the ninjas system. So what I'm trying to say is, when marking a thread or group of posts as spam, should only the first post be reported, or to guarantee that all offenders are rightfully prosecuted should all be marked as spam?

Trying something once will increace your chances of success, because you tried it. Try someting twice, and your chances increase yet again - seeing as you've done it. Try something a few thousand times, and your chances of success is exponentially increased; this increase would likely provide success every time

Personally, I think of it like this. The mods see a thread, and they will real all of the posts; thus how so many people can get banned. If you report the first post, they will most likely view the thread in its entirety instead of just the first post. Basically, if the thread is reported, chances are, the mods will look through the whole thing and not just the post that was reported.

Good, bad, I'm the guy with the clichéd lines.

Yeah I tend to just report the first post, and I'll only report other posts in the thread if they're really bad. Like if someone posts a picture of -blam!-.

I have a different question though. How come some threads I've seen don't allow me to report some of the posts as spam? I've seen some threads (mainly in the Halo 3 file forums) where the first few posts won't let me report it.

I have been wondering the same thing. I ran across a thread in the flood that will not allow me to report it; as well as a user within the thread. I am assuming, and mind you I am most likely way off, but it may be determined by the length of time a thread has been active for. But none-the-less, I too would love an answer to this.

That happens to me sometimes, as well. I'll try to get a screen of it next time it happens -- it does usually occur in the files forums, and it seems like it indeed shouldn't be doing so.

I think they are threads that were made before the "Report as Spam" button came around. As for your other question, I remember Recon saying something like it's only necessary to report the first post.

Taxes do nothing to affect the share of wealth, since taxes are only applied to income.

So that's not even a part of the conversation at all, so it's pointless talking about it....

"for a "best" moral to exist, there must exist the "best" moral base. If the base of morality varies from location to location, culture to culture...then there can't be an absolute moral..

it would be nice if they could do that, but that would take ten tons of time, much more than simply reading the reported posts.

i have no idea how many posts are reported as spam, but i suspect that it is a ton since there are many spammy posts that will be reported along with many nonspammy posts that will be reported as well.

i simply report each spammy post that i see. if others are doing the same, then the same inappropriate posts will be reported many times and forum violators will be banned.

You can and should report all posts you think violate the rules, even if they're in the same thread.

Thanks for the info Achronos, clears a quiet a bit up. So, any possibility of answering the second question? Why we are not able to report some threads?

You cannot report the following:

- Posts by users with gold text
- Posts by users with salmon text
- Any post older than 15 days

That last one is probably the one that gave rise to your question. Hope that helps!

Oh, no, it wasn't an issue with that, if Rokit and I are still talking about the same thing. Sometimes when I go into a screenshots thread, a "report spam" button does not appear on the first three or four posts, but does appear on the rest. The posts without the report option can be from members who don't have any perks on their accounts such as golden or salmon-coloured text.

Actually, what Fo said is true. Example. All of the posts except for the last one cannot be reported. They were posted 16 days ago; thus the 15 day part.

Thanks for clearing that up Fo, appreciate it.

  • 12.31.2007 8:09 PM PDT

Oh, I see. I was thinking that the posts I wasn't seeing that option on were new ones -- I didn't notice that the first few posts actually were 15 days old, but the thread might have lasted two and a half to three weeks for example, so that the more recent posts would have had that option on them, thus completely throwing me off. Now I feel pretty foolish :P

Thanks, didn't realize that.

What if sometimes there is no option for spam? I remember looking at a pic in which someone bumped it, but their first post had no "report as spam" button by it. The other ones from other people did, but not the OP's....I clicked the other persons because I didn't know what else to do...

  • 12.31.2007 8:54 PM PDT

If a post is older than 15 days, the option to report it as spam will not appear. It doesn't matter whether that post was an OP or the very last post.

For example, let's say that you started a thread, and let's also say that you've gotten seven pages' worth of replies over three weeks. Although your OP would be more than 15 days old, the posts nearer the end of the thread (the more recent ones) will have report spam options if they've been posted within the last 15 days.

Seeing as this is a topic of questions regarding the feature I have my own.

If the post is for example in the wrong forum would it be wise to PM a mod or use the report as spam feature?
I would appreciate it if somebody could clarify. Thanks.

Yeah, you can use the report feature for that. It can be used to report any infraction of forum rules -- spam and offensive content are just the most urgent reasons to do so.

That is what I tend to use it for, I just wanted clarification. Thank you very much. ;-)

Does reporting the first post of a thread, report the thread as spam, or just the post? Is there plans for a "Report Thread" button?
