I think halo 3 is great, probably the best fps out on consoles right now, but it should have been so much better. Personally I think Halo 1 had the best multiplayer, because the lack of xbox live forces you to invite people you know to your house to have a game with you, which automatically makes the experience much better than playing with the losers that make up halo 3 matchmaking.
Also, with halo 3 they tried to make it so everyone could pick the game up and be successful to some degree (it is the 360s flagship game, so it has to be accessible), however, the changes they made meant that it is really difficult to get really good at halo 3 unless you play something like mlg (which still has a skill cap on the individual player), and this limits the enjoyment for the geeks like me who like to master a game.
In Halo 1, even my dad could play with us if we were a man down and he got on fine, as the simplicity of the game (few weapons that are easy to use, no grenade jumps, etc.) meant it was easy to pick up, but if he faced me 1v1 (I consider myself to be pretty good at the game) I could beat him 15nil - something that is almost impossible to achieve in a halo 3 match with standard rules.
If halo 3 had stuck with the Halo: CE formula but applied to a grander scale with better graphics, online support, more maps and the forge/saved films features rather than making a slow-paced game for pre-teens who need that rank 50 to boost their self-esteem it would definitely have been the best game ever. I know it sounds like I am being really critical of halo 3, but i still think its a great game, but I am just disappointed that bungie didn't fulfill the potential it had when making a sequel to Halo:CE.
