Well, i guess the repetitiveness (?) is just coming down to a matter of preference and opinion, in which case there's not much point in talking about it anymore. But I agree, gameplay should always come first in creating a game.

Halo: CE - Best campaign
Halo 2 - Best multiplayer
Halo 3 - Best new features and multiplayer

Halo: CE - Best campaign, Best multiplayer, Best game engine
Halo 2 - Best...uhh...Spectres
Halo 3 - Best Options/Interface, Decent compromise between its two predecessors

Granted, Halo 3 is far more customizable and has much more variety and makes the first game seem quite limited and out dated, but it wouldn't be fair to compare them like that considering how far apart they were released.

im afraid im gonna have to confiscate your testicles.

What are you, the Cyber police? lol.

Halo 1 is better by far than Halo 3, if you were to bring all the weapons from Halo 3 to Halo 1, that is pure domination, no game would match up.
I must admit that I didnt like the Halo 1 Campaign too much, there hardly was any story, there was a little dialogue and then you were given a gun to shoot up the whole stage. Where as Halo 2 Campaign, far more dialogue than Halo 2, theres more of a story of what Halo is and the Covenant and the forerunners and such. Im looking forward to the Halo 2 Vista Campaign.

Halo 1 has the library. that level was a massive failure on so many levels, by itself, it brings it down from being one of the best gaming experiences i have ever had. Halo 3 has 4 player co-op, scoring and skulls. it also has the terminals. I find that the halo 3 campaign is just more enjoyable, but that's just my opinion.

I find that all three games' music is unique and yet it rings of Halo, the series, not the game.

Have you tried playing the game on legendary with a couple skulls on? That's where the AI really shines. I do have to admit, that the drivers are absolutely retarded, but in Halo 1 there were no drivers, and you were frequently run over by any retard in a ghost. both games have AI problems, but then, so does every game.

I don't see how it OD on new things. What's wrong with expanding on the core? Equipment can be taken out, vehicles can also be selected to the user's liking. The game has insane customizability so that anyone can play on something that they like.

Playing a LAN is a different experience from playing Online, you can compare the two, but it's just not the same.

Your opinion is that halo 1 was a better game, and i respect that, but i believe that Halo 3 is more fun. It all comes down to opinion, and no one can have the wrong opinion when it comes to this matter, because everyone has a different definition of a "fun" game.

If you want to be absolutist, and say it would literally be the best game ever, not just the best shooter, then I would have to say Crysis still beats the crap out of it. :)

Library > Cortana

And if we're talking about the best video game ever made, well that's Ninja Gaiden.

  • 01.29.2008 4:36 AM PDT

I keep getting banned since the mods are unfunny and suck at their jobs!

Halo is the best in the series, but not the best in the genre.

God Guys im seriously tired of people complaining about Halo 3 (not talking about everyone so dont flame me..lol), Bungie made the game you bought it get over it. But on this discussion i still love Halo 1 and still play it for the PC online from time to time which is a great feat considering i have a horrendus Graphics Card. 2 hour CTF games on BG FTW.

WTF??!??!!!!!!!!!!!

YOU THINK THAT HALO: COMBAT EVOLVED IS BETTER THEN HALO 3 IN CAMPAIGN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Halo 3 is like HCE campaign only that it is 10X BETTER.

Comparisons...

* The Covenant: Two Scarabs, large, much more. Its Assault on the Control Room.
* Cortana: Like the Library, only that its in Halo 3.
* Tsavo Highway: Like "Halo" only that it is in Halo 3 and has a much bigger force for you. (In HCE all you have is a Warthog with two men maximum)
*Crows Nest: No comparison: Maybe Pillar of Autumn.
*The Storm: Metropolis? Outskirts?
*Sierra-117: No comparison. Maybe Delta Halo?
*Floodgate: 343 Guilty Spark (Plot and some gameplay elements).

The Campaigns are completely different. One thing i've nticed is that Halo CE and Halo 2 use similar level direction:
-Fight way off ship/station
-Crash on planet, find/help survivors
-Rescue Keyes/kill Regret
-Find Flood
-Escape Flood/Fight through Flood
-Find Index
-Stop Halo from being activated
Granted, some levels in Halo 2 are missing, but there are nearly double in Halo 2. Halo 3 is not included because Bungie came up with new level ideas. Which, unlike Halo 2, were not bland and uninteresting.
The thing that I find stands out the most is the amount of exploration you can do in Halo CE. You can go anywhere if you find a vehicle, the areas are huge enough to explore a lot and almost never get bored, and the lack of invisible walls makes a more interesting game(i.e. if you drive far enough into the water on Silent Cartographer, you end up back on the island.....eventually), and you don't die for going somewhere cool, but you do die if you jump off an edge or glitch back into the Pelicans.

Granted, the AI are idiots in Halo CE, but in Halo 2 they aren't much better, and as long as they don't have a rocket launcher or steering wheel in Halo 3, they're brilliant.

Multiplayer: This one's a toughie. Many different opinions. I'm thinking that Halo 2 and Halo 3 greatly depend on team performance, while Halo CE depended on individual contributions, and then teamwork could make a team stellar. Being one of the individuals that could turn the tide, this may be slightly biased. But if you had pretty much any weapon, you could beat someone in a vehicle, or with a rocket launcher. In Halo 3, you don't have much chance on your own, ala lack of any form of damage absorption once shields are gone, since they are basically your health.

Better maps, balanced gameplay, physics engine that makes sense. All in all, H2 an H3 can't touch H:CE. If H2 WAS Halo: CE with an online multiplayer, it would have been the best game ever produced, in my eyes.

Except for the Live part it's the same for me...
I played Halo every chance I got... Playing AotCR, SC and Halo over and over and never getting bored of it...
Halo 3, on the other hand, I have played through not even twice, and have played online not even 1/100th of the time I played Halo 2 online...

I mainly blame this on there being too many other games that I want to play right now... Not on Halo 3 being a 'bad' game... I think it is an awesome game...

Halo CE got me into Halo hence it is the best game...

That and the fact it had an amazing storyline, invincible Warthogs, Sniper night vision and some sweet multiplayer maps!

Spartans are from Venus and Elites are from Uranus

Actually, Halo 3 has almost one million players a day, not fifty thousand.
Campaign wise I disagree. The large levels are just as fun in Halo 3 as they are in the original. The live co-op give Halo 3 and edge and the new weapons and vehicles are great and all useful(which is more than I can say about the original where all you really needed was the pistol). The human ai was no better in Halo than it was in Halo 3. In fact it was worse. The marines could barely fend for them selves and their survival depended really on how quicky you killed the enemies. The only things Halo 1 had over 3 was that the elites were tougher than the Brutes and the campagn was loger. But I'll take the 4-player co-op over Halo's longer campaign any day. And while both had a crappy flood infested level, I'd deffinatly have to say that the Library was clearly worse than Cortana.
The sound track was way better in Halo 3 than the entire series, taking the best of the series and making it better and most of it was fully orchestrated unlike the original.
Multiplayer in Halo 3 was way better, it let you have more options, and you go to watch classic momtents in theatre. And best of all, the multiplayer wwas balanced(unlike CE where everyone just uses the sniper pistol).

This is how I feel:

Campaign:Halo 1 > Halo 3 > Halo 2
Multiplayer:Halo 3 > Halo 2 = Halo 1

Wise men talk because they have something to say, fools because they have to say something.

I miss H1's physics engine too. It might not have been as "realistic" as H3's, but drifting in the warthog was so much fun!

Oddly, I kinda miss fall damage too... dunno why

I know that this is a video game and they aren't necessarily supposed to be realistic, but I miss it too. It makes people think about their decisions in movement and doesn't allow people to ambush you from the top of a building with close range weapons. Also I don't understand how melee damage or a vehicle is capable of doing as much damage as it does when the chief can fall from 1-2 km at the beginning of halo 3 and survive. I don't know, it just bothers me.

The lack of fall damage and the game engine makes me feel like I'm playing as the Pillsbury Dough Boy when I jump instead of a genetically-enhanced soldier wearing futuristic armor that weighs around 1,000 pounds. This is actually something that bothered me from the first game, except more so in Halo 2 and Halo 3: If you weigh that much as a Spartan, then the ground should crumble and the ground should shake when you run or fall from a high area.

Kill or be Killed

I am a hola finatic not as in im very good at milti but ivee read every book know all the glicthes to Halo: CE all the short cuts, granted i didnt have halo 2 or 3 until march 2007 but i was quite content i wish there was a HALO as in all halo games entire campaign with halo 1 settings halo 1 pistol (not dual wieldable that would be to devastateing like a long range sword) but to take to best componets of each game. i play games for fun not to say look what i did. and for all the people who will criticise me 1. this is a forum for opinions 2. go trap your self with halo 1 for five years then come back

Thank you
