halo one blows on my balls compared 2 halo 3 . halo 1 sux for multiplayer, halo 1 campaign= amazing halo 3 campaign= ok , halo 1 multiplayer =crap halo 3 multiplayer=sweet , halo 2 multiplayer = AMAZING!

Are you serious. Ranking systems have taken all joy from Halo games. That's why cheating occurs. People only play for a fake ranking on a t.v. screen.

Screw that, get me a 4v4 CTF on Blood Gulch or Sidewinder. That's better than anything Halo 3 can muster.

Just play social or custom if you don't like the losers that only care about their rank. If you do system link you can play only every now and then, and only if your friends want to play. With online, you can play whenever, and it is more challenging to play against a variety of people.

Bungie is the best.

Simple as that.

halo 3 is way better than halo 1. i dont like the health system in halo 1 either

But you must have liked the Halo: Combat Evolved health system if you played it in the year it was released like me, since there wasn't anything to compare it with (Except maybe GoldenEye 007 for N64).

The A.I. in Halo (1) talks more, more communication so i agree with you on that one but, i'm afraid marines being able to drive the other warthogs' and tanks while you ride something else (including the warthog and scorpian) is much better. Once again Halo (1) has a more flaws with the A.I than Halo 2 and Halo 3; the fact that the A.I sometimes sticks, shoots you and other marines, plus you can't give them rocket launchers to fight vehicles.

Halo (1) does have a more involving and replayable experience only because, you have played it some many times in the past it becomes your own personnal classic. To explain further, i myself still like AOE (1) because, i played it when i was younger and i always can get the same buzz from the game, maybe i can't play it as long but i can still play it for 3 hours. Halo (1) i am the same with, i enjoy the campaign because, of this buzzi get from it still, maybe it is the level design and multiple ways of killing your enemys via multiple routes, strategys and vehicles. In Halo 2/3, it is extremely more difficult to find such examples as the game play has changed dramatically, Bungie have certainly changed the way they make games, to stick to a strong story line and force a player to experience the game a certain way. I think that's why Halo 2/3 aren't very appealing for many replayable missions, although i must admit 'Library' was boring and repetative.

Speaking of repetitive, it was nice to see AoCR, reappear in Halo 3 with the subtitle: 'Full Circle', didn't you reply with a cheesy grin and think, 'i wonder what the changes are'? Bungie did little change to the layout except the graphics (obviously), interior of the control room and replacement of the ramps to get to the facility, a little snowed under.

Halo 2 showed a dramatic change in style ccompared to Halo (1), weapons, game engine graphics, health, you might aswell say everything, but it worked well due to the feel of the story line, a tense and highly involving strong plot that ended in a spectacular end that opened Halo 3: 'Finish the Fight'.

I personally disagree with many comparisons to the Halo series, why can't people see them as versions? Yes the graphics are different but, hey, i want to play Side Winder with the MA5B with a few friends today! Hey, i feel a bit of Relic on Halo 2 and so on so forth. I see them as weapon, missions and map variations for a particular buzz, a joy from a classic or a challenge the other.

I do understand why these topics occur and why people want to see which one is better, i myself (as an opinion) don't see it that way (stated above). I only came to this topic to see the reasons being placed and to state my point of view. Any critisms of my veiw are welcomed, since you are entitled to your own opinion, just don't get angry, it's a debate really... without a conclusion from Bungie.

I agree man 100 percent. Halo 3 isnt a bad game but it isn't half as good as the original. I would pay 100 bucks for HALO with online multiplayer.

I agree with most of what you say blunts, but the thing is..most people wont give halo 1 a chance....and most dont even try halo 2 either, all of them were good games

Go tell the Spartans, thou that passest by, That here, obedient to their laws, we lie.

i can only completely agree! i mean the weapons in 1 where so diverse. they all had their strengths an weaknesses, no dual wieldy -blam!-,
in 2 an 3 the power weapons are too strong an everything else is too weak,
i just think over the years they lost the balance in favor of good visuals or cool looking weaponry.

Well Enough Alone...

~"The people who play Bungie games tend to sense that there's something behind the games that's attractive to them. Then they become fans of the games. And then they become rabid fans. And then they become employees of Bungie."(Life story) -Marty

Yep I agree for all those reasons.

And I think halo ce has, not "better" in the regular meaning but "better" in the Epic way. Just take the Maw or T&R.

I think the reason is that Bungie has brough it tons of people and, although they helped in makeing tons of new features and makeing everythiong polished and work well and everything, all the new stuff and the touches each person has made obscure the true halo undernieth. halo ce, you could actually say 1 indevidual person made a level.
I don't know. it just seems like with halo ce, there's mor ebehind the game. It's like reading a book. You can really tell what the creator was thinking. in halo 3, with so many creators, that gets obscured.

I myself think that Halo: CE for the PC is the best game. It has all the advantages of Halo: CE and the online support that everyone says is what makes Halo 3 better. It then goes even further if you download Halo Custom Edition, in which you can get awesome maps and mods. Also, slightly off topic, in my opinion the pistol was a large part of what made Halo fun. It was a good weapon, maybe it was a little too powerful but it was cool that way.

You have made a very good point which I have thought about myself.

There is definitely something to be said for a coherent, consistent singular vision vs something designed by committee.

I would agree, for the most part, but it doesn't support dual analog. I also don't like the weapon additions, and how vehicles despawn/respawn. Those are my biggest problems with it.

Agreed.

I played Halo: CE for three years almost everyday, but Halo three is already boring (I can't play games on live though).

Yeah...honestly I think that's all it really comes down to. Halo 1 was released in 2001(?) and I still play it on a regular basis. Whenever I get bored of the new game that I am into, I can revert back to Halo 1, either by myself, on co-op, or system link, and I'll have a blast. Every time. I've never played Halo 1 and not had fun. I've never played Halo 1 and been frustrated because of something unfair occurring (i.e. glitches or inexplicable deaths).

All I know is, 7 years from now, I don't see myself popping Halo 3 into my 3rd generation Xbox and going all the way through the campaign on legendary for the 100th time. In fact, I've only put maybe 10 hours or so into Halo 3 in the past 2 months.

Halo 3 just isn't FUN enough to hold my interest.

It's called Social Playlists. And no, cheating would occurr either way. People are just like that.

I can't really say that one is better than the other. They both have their flaws.

One of CE's flaws that I remember is that the marines would often shoot Captain Keyes when you rescued him, causing me to lose the mission several times.

Well, you've got a point there. Although I haven't tested Halo 3 yet, too much hype has gone into it. Halo 1 Brings gaming back to it's roots, thus making it an exellent game. Judging from what I saw from videos, Halo 3 is indeed pretty good, but if i had to choose, it would be Halo 1.
Besides, I may change my mind once I get to test Halo 3!

I loved how when you first meet the Flood that they attack you as if they are an organic wave.

I know that the cutscene right before you meet the flood is my favorite one in the whole game. It was so awesome. :)

  • 02.24.2008 1:52 PM PDT

Is Halo: Combat Evolved worth playing if you played the other two? I played Halo 1's first few levels many years ago, but by the second or third I became sick of the game. It gave me a headache, I couldn't find my way around anything, and I hated the health system.

Granted, this is something like six years later now and I think I have improved my gaming skill at least a little since then, but is the story of the original still even worth playing? Also, how hard is the campaign on normal, heroic, legendary as compared to Halo 3?

  • 02.25.2008 10:03 AM PDT

I have to say it's worth playing, but I played it starting in /02. The thing I find about Halo CE is that the Flood would ambush you in large waves, and it would be very creepy before they did. You wouldn't even see them before they rushed. Whereas in 2 & 3, you can see them, and it just doesn't creep out as much.

The health system allowed you to fight on higher difficulties without shields. The Flood weren;t instant death if they latched on, and the enemies had larger waves that increased on difficulties.

Easy is simple. Most enemies cannot even touch you. Grenades, swords, vehicles, falls, and Wraiths are the only things that can hurt you.
Normal is as it says, normal. You have to consciously think about decisions in combat. Troops pose a challenge. Marines do help here. Power-Ups help greatly.
Heroic is harder than Normal. Snipers, 'nades, pistols, and rockets are your best friends here. The marines really help here, and don't get killed immediately. Hunters pose a challenge. Vehicles are best used immediately, and power-ups are a great benefit.
Legendary has a different feel than Halo 2 & 3. your shields may be gone but you can still fight. Grenades are your only weapon against Elites. Marines with snipers are your salvation. Enemy troops can mow you down in seconds, but if you're smart you can flank them. Good aim and perseverance is essential. Zealots are invincible without grenades or snipers. Power-ups are a must. Waves upon waves descend upon you. the Flood is a giant flleshy wave that never ends, and never relents. Ambushes are common. Rockets are your enemy when facing Flood. Vehicles are necessary. Stealth is always the best strategy, whenever available. Sniper, pistol, and shotgun is your friend.

Playing time!

I think that halo combat evolved was superior because it had no online component.

Most people are thinking I an an idiot right now but I can actually explain this.

My number one dislike about games these days is that the developers have forgoten that when you play a game with a friend actually sitting next to you it is a really cool experience. Games like bioshock which has no multiplayer and frontlines which only has online multiplayer deny us the social aspects of gaming that many of us remember from playing splitscreen games. Back in the days of halo 1 we I huge partys where people would actualy play games of goldeneye on one TV to determine who would get to play halo on the other one. When enough of us got systems we started system linking.

Unfortunatly games have become a more solitary function. I got Halo 3 on launch day, I even picked up the legendary edition. When I started calling around to my friends to set up game partys I quickly realized that they werent interested, they were playing on live. They alienated thier real life friends to play online. I didnt have live back then, I have only had it since december. It has been months since I went to a friends house to play games. I do have a friend that comes to my house to play games but he mainly comes here because he dosent own any game systems at all. I applaud bungie for maintaining the ability to splitscreen through live, you are preserving the social bonds of the gaming community, however I am afraid that others in the industry have not been as vigilant. They take the easy way saying that they cant do it because of system resources or design time constraints. If Bungie can put splitscreen live play in Halo 3 why cant Infinity Ward put it in Call of Duty 4, or Ubisoft put it in Rainbow Six Vegas.

I miss the times of bringing home 3 huge cases of mountain dew and 4 or 5 pizzas for all of my friends to play games, now I just sit in the living room talking into a cold plastic headset and wishing for days long past.

The lan is dead.

  • 02.27.2008 2:05 AM PDT

I have to agree. My friends and I are trying to put together a small LAN, but so far, it's gone nowhere. Multiplayer is the new fad, and it's not leaving anytime soon.

And a Zealot is a Gold Elite. They pilot Wraiths, and use energy Swords and Plasma Rifles.

See, people agree with me.

H1 and Halo Custom edition name: madkiller92
xfire:madkiller92

halo 1 multiplayer =crap
h1 multiplyer was classic and even better than halo 2's. h3 multiplyer>h1 multipler>h2 multiplayer
for campaign
h1(it's just more mysterious with so mamny more tiwist and being way mroe terrifing and more sci-fi like)>h2>h3
i can't choose between h1 and h3, but h1, h2, and h3 are all great.
wonder what halo wars and the halo chornicles(It's supposed to be a interactive movie thing, more cutscenes and less fighting.) halo chorincles will be kinda like an.. interactive movie! lol and halo wars will be stargety. but i'm interseted in what will happen in halo chronicles and if it's even coming out, and then halo wars multiplyer.... i don't think it will have good MP

  • 03.01.2008 10:32 AM PDT

Well, I started playing Halo 1 today (after I've beaten Halo 2 & 3), and so far I don't really like it. I am managing to overlook the terrible graphics, but I hate trying to find health packs, I hate the atrocious aim of my allies, I hate their terrible IQ, and I absolutely despise not being able to jump from high places and survive.

This is after the first two levels of the game, and I will play the others, but I simply can't say I agree that this game is better than any of the others. So far I still believe that Halo 3 takes the top crown.
