Because you are what you eat, and you know what it is.

I was a Heroic member up until about 4 days ago. My gamertag unlinked itself, and I could not relink it. This brought my status down to member. Now that the whole ordeal has been fixed, I would like to ask for my status back, since I did not receive any warnings, blacklists, or anything of the like.

Did this happen to anyone else, and is there any possibility of me getting the status back?

Now now, Recon, it's pretty much a bug. If anything, this is a bug report, not a "Gimme my flashy title back!"

At least, we can pretend it is. >_>

Why do people in ship mutinies always ask for "better treatment"? I'd ask for a pinball machine, because with all that rocking back and forth, you'd get a lot of free games.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

wait, is that what happened.... REALLY?

You say tomato; I say potato.

The only problem I've had thus far was the temporary loss of all my experience points in match making. I'm having mixed feelings on the resolution of that error because I was amazing in ranked matches for just a bit.

Since you don't have any warnings, blacklists, or anything of the like.... your title is likely to return to Heroic (for what that it worth). But making public posts about it (and apparently putting unwarranted value on it) is counter to the purpose of the title itself. How many true heroes are concerned with badges, hats, medals, or status?

Even worse. As an example, it could get a member a warning (to not treat it like a H3 rank by micromanaging it) which would make the return of the title even less likely.

I just want everything back to normal. Is that so wrong?

Completely. It's 2008. Times have changed.

Since yesterday.

Actually, I see no harm in it. I'm sure Achronos will right this wrong.

I dunno...do the medals get your free drinks at the bar?

I would imagine that the system would sort itself out here shortly Reanimation. You haven't done anything to your trust rating to diminish it, so the system should bestow upon you the title when the dust settles so to speak. I don't think that Achronos manually does anything with the titles. That's not to say that he doesn't have manual override so I'm sure he could technically give you your title back. But I figure it will sort itself out just like some missing game history on your account.

As to Recon, I would imagine that Reanimation is so worked up about it because he has tasted the sweet sweet nectar of being a Heroic Member and then had for no good reason taken away from him. I would imagine that is why he is seeking it so feverishly, not because he doesn't have the title per se.

OH man, I can't help it. Heroes should really only worry about how tight their tights are. Gosh.... that joke might have been too easy.

My "title" was revoked too. I'm not complaining, I would just like to report it as a bug.

Member, Heroic Member, Legendary Member, and Mythic Member are titles given by an automated system, calculated with a complex algorithm, and supposedly measure how trustworthy you are. This issue may or may not be fixed, because it is all done through the automated system. Unless Achronos would be willing to change those titles for individual members who experienced a bug during that time frame, it is very unlikely that the system would "fix" itself.

In a way, I agree with you, but I also agree with Recon Number 54. Since the system changed your forum title from Heroic Member to Member for no apparent reason (meaning not on your part), then it would only be right to change it back, thus serving as a reward for being a trustworthy member. However, a forum title does not change who you are and you must acknowledge that. If my forum title was changed to newb, I would not complain or question the reasoning because I know that I am still CrypticGuardian. In my opinion, users should not look at text from a Mythic Member differently than text from a Heroic Member.

Every member serves an importance throughout the Bungie.net community, some more than others. When users read your posts, do you think they care more about your forum title rather than the content of the text itself? We are all equally important here on Bungie.net because if it wasn't for each and every individual member, there would be a Bungie.net community. Be thankful for that and also having the opporunity to interact with others that share the same interests that you do. Ignore those who look at users by there title, and follow those who look at you as a person.

You'd be more likely to drink the Webmaster under the table.

I can understand some confusion or a little discontent over your title being lost due to a bug, but it's not like your entire credibility as a member lies there. The post makes the post, the user's title does not.

I work at Microsoft. I have nothing to do with Halo and nothing I say is "the official word".

Yes I know it's automated, yes I know it's just a word, but seriously, there's something slightly malevolent about a member getting the title only to lose it again for no reason.

I can't imagine why these titles were introduced in the first place. If I were to guess instead of imagine, I'd say it's so a member can have some sort of proof that they have gone a very long time without so much as a warning from forum ninjas. Not so much a status as it is a gold star next to your name on the wall of a Kindergarten classroom.

No.

I believe it was so that people would put a little value into their accounts.

and Recon, aren't YOU being slightly melodramatic, all he did was make bad word choice while asking for his title back, which he rightly "earned" based on the system.

I will say that malevolent is indeed too strong a word which led to the necesity of saying only slightly, but I couldn't think of any less severe words for that general concept. I'm thinking along the lines of telling someone "here have a cookie" then snatching it back when they try to take it. It's in the very least irritating.

(Also just to be clear it wasn't Reanimation's choice of word)

Ouch...

Well I have some mixed feelings on the subject. A part of me thinks that the custom titles are kinda cool and although it doesn't change who you are to anyone or yourself, its almost like a possession. If I had a neckalace that dissapeared, I'd like it back, not really because its important but because its mine and I don't want my stuff to dissapear. And how isn't a title like a possession? It appears right under your name everytime you post and stays with you on all the public (and in some cases private) bungie.net forums.

The other part of me agrees with Pezz's coldness, in that if you care about which title you have then you should fall under the category of a "member" because only the unselfish and unelitest members should deserve the custom titles rewarded to you by the trust system. So to inquire about the change in a user title would mean that the user cares, which means they aren't as trustworthy to the forums and should only be shown as a "member".

In the end I'm undecided. If I logged on one day to find my Webcam MVP title gone, I'd probably care enough to PM Achronos asking (if I didn't already know). I don't know if I'd ask for it back, I'd definetely be curious though.

I hope you realize that this isnt a bug and that you not having a linked GT probably makes you less 'trustworthy" according to the system.

And where might I find this bit of info from?

An odd bug. I see it has fixed itself though, I guess eventually the system catches up.

Just as a completely irrelevant note. Most people posting in this topic seem to be at least heroic status. It seems those with the most "Trust" seem to collaborate in the community forum. Although they post in the Halo 3 forum due to the mass of members they are rarely seen. It isn't really surprising as from my experience the best posts are most mature conversations take place in the septagon. Just something that caught my mind.

Glad the problems fixed.

A good post and I agree with you in many ways. Firstly I recieved my Heroic member title on New Years Day a few days back and if I was to be honest I felt very happy to see that my lack of any major blacklists over the last few months has paid off in terms of it being noticed. If this was suddenly taken away I would be a bit confused if I thought I had done nothing wrong and would like an explanation. It is like if you weren't given a cookie by your mum but your brother was you'd want an explanation if you had done nothing wrong.

Also what Pezz said about not deserving it if you care. Although he carries a valid point in terms of caring for the wrong reasons I disagree. I think it is good to care about your title, caring to me means that I am all the more cautious what I do because I want to keep the title. It sounds worse than it is. I would never boast about the title or speak to members as if they are lower than me, I would do the opposite to keep the title and to show example to members as to how you should act to achieve such status because we are all really in the same boat and we're all equal or in bungie terms none of us have rights so it doesn't matter.
