Being in the ignorant state that I am, I am forced to ask a question that is quite possibly asked a bit much, though I could find nothing of similiar subject.

I'm taking a fancy on modelling some multiplayer maps (just for the heck of it) yet I know not of any good 3d world builders that would work well for such a task.

I know they're not easy to make but I'm good with computers and a fast learner, so I'm sure I'll get the hang of it. So do any of you know of a good 3d world builder to use for making multiplayer maps?

Thanks!

Do not consider yourself ignorant for wanting to learn things. Had I the experience in that field of computers I would gladly help.

Well, I don't have any experience personally, but I read that 3dmax is used to make many video games, includidng Halo 2. However, I heard that it can also cost thousands of dollars. I'm guessing that is out of your price range so you might be able to try blender. Again, I have never used it, but I heard about it on TechTv. Its a free download so maybe you could go and google it.

3ds max or Maya, both are expensive though. There is a free program called Gmax that you can find at www.discreet.com . I'd reccomend you start there.

edit: You'd also need adobe photoshop

You're mixing up ignorant and stupid. Ignorance isn't necessarily a bad thing. Yes, he is ignorant, but the fact that he wants to learn makes that a pretty pointless thing to say.

I'm not sure if this is any help at all, but with some games like Half-Life 2, you can use an SDK (software development kit) to create your own maps. The mod community would know though.
