I think the advertising rule in the Community Files forum is a little too strict. Blatant advertising is of course not a good thing and should be banned (e.g "cool have a look at mine[url]).
But I believe that if the advertiser actually takes time to comment on the file, and does not spam every thread with his advertisement, it should be allowed. I have advertised a few times, but I always actually looked at the file and put forward my thoughts.

So:
Allowed: Advertising in 1 thread only, and posting an actual comment.
Not allowed: Advertising in multiple threads, not taking the time to properly comment, and advertising in threads which specifically ask for no advertisements.

We all know how it feels to take the time to get a perfect screenshot, and then have no-one comment on it.

P.S, I'm sorry if this is in the wrong forum, and if it is, could a moderator please move this to the correct forum. The 7th Columns description is not very clear on what this forum is for.

if your thread isn't good enough to get replies without advertising, then it's not worthy of you being able to advertise it.

Have you ever seen the screenshot forum? It's possible to post a thread, and, literally, by the time your internet loads the topic listing, your picture will be back on the 2nd page.

People post their files for recognition, and the flood of files just doesn't allow it.

Could people please post reasons for their opinion?

No, simply because if you give someone an inch they will take a mile.

No can do. Any advertising would be instantly abused, and then it would give people that gray area in which to argue. People shouldn't advertise in other people's threads and that's that.

Why do people in ship mutinies always ask for "better treatment"? I'd ask for a pinball machine, because with all that rocking back and forth, you'd get a lot of free games.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

just because it takes time doesn't mean we need it.
