Subject: Speaking of insignia...I think you messed up, Bungie.

Hooah

I know it's a little late now, but if you look closely at Captain Keyes in Halo: Combat Evolved, you'll see the two bars that represent the rank of Captain. That's actually the wrong insignia for a Captain in the Navy. You used Captain for the Army, Marine Corps, and Air Force. The real rank device for a Naval Captain is an eagle, just like a Colonel, but with the head and arrows pointing in the opposite directions. In the game, you made Keyes a Lieutenant

maybe since its a video game, they can do what they want?

or maybe it is like 500 years in the future during the game, so again they can do what they want?

and maybe since they made it, they can do what they want?

just saying :-)

You know, I just went back and looked at the cutscenes.

No shoulder boards or sleeve stripes either.

But what do you expect from a service that has "Hello My Name Is ______" name tags on their uniforms?

lol so true

Your wrong the Captain Rank IS 2 silver bars the eagle is the colonel rank. Captain Keyes is a marine. The army ranks are similar with the marines rank.

Um, in case you haven't noticed this, Captain Keyes is part of the Marines.

If that is the case, then he (an old, decorated war horse) is outranked by his daughter?

No, he is a Naval Captain, equivalent in rank to a gro-po Colonel.

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe it is implied that Miranda Keyes was elevated to second in command of the UNSC forces after the Covenant struck Earth. It is not said anywhere in the game but I think she is.

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

Although many of the soldiers in the UNSC speak English, the UNSC and the UNSC Marines are not American. The ranks and insignia are similar, but noticeably different in many ways.

Also you have to remember that this is some 500 years into the future. Naval Ranks might have been changed by then.

Live for nothing die for something.

Not only this, but remember, Miranda got promoted b/c of her fathers deeds, and the ranks have to be different, this is the United Nations Space Command. Not the Navy, Army, Airforce, or Marines.

Now now, if a mature rated video game such as Halo displayed Lord Hood touching a women in the breast area, well....=D

Critics criticize everything!

She was presented with his posthumous medal, but it was not awarded to her.

Lord Hood (if I recall) handed it to her. He didn't pin it on her.

Are we taking into account it's the year 2552, and our current Navy is completely different than that of the UNSC?

And the Shadow fell upon the Land, and the World was riven stone from stone. The oceans fled, and the mountains were swallowed up, and the nations were scattered to the eight corners of the World. The moon was blood, and the sun was as ashes. The seas boiled, and the living envied the dead. All was shattered, and all but memory lost, and one memory above all others, of him who brought the Shadow and the Breaking of the World. And him they named Dragon.

Nonsense!
If something in a game is not exactly as it is in real life it must be wrong!

Date is irrelevant.

Hooah

I aware of that, but Captain Keyes is not a Marine. He IS a naval officer. If you've ever read the series, someone mentions his desire to become an Admiral; trust me dude, I know my ranks. My father's a First Sergeant, my grandfather was a Major, and I know almost everything there is to know about the military. Why do you think that Major Silva had to follow Captain Keyes' orders? A naval Captain is two ranks above a Major, in the Corps and any other branch of the military. The navy has the only officer ranks and insignia that differ from what we are informally aware of, i.e., the Captain you're thinking of.
