I know a post like this puts me close to a stake with heretic written over the top but hear me out...

Game of the Year 2004 goes to, in my opinion, not Halo 2.

Whilst the game was rockingly awesome I felt it didn't improve on itself as much as was anticipated. So while it rocked most peoples socks off, I felt there was more to be had...

Thats when I wrenched out my fresh new copy of Prince of Persia: Warrior Within...

Not only was this a series I have held a long love for (much like Bungie games) but this gave even more than I had ever anticipated. You get thrust straight into a plot where your characters fate is written... that he must die. And through the first level you are able to do hundreds of new moves, combos, etc that were never before available in Sands of Time... not only this but the graphics were all finely tuned and the music rocking away like never before.
As you play through you encounter a complex, intriguing plot that ties together so completely towards the end you marvel at how they managed it. You go from thinking you know everything thats going to happen straight back to step one with each new plot twist.

As well as new fighting styles (single or that ever popular dual-wielding) you get to throw people, snap their necks and leap over them... a new HUD makes for easier viewing and control... and everything just captivates you more.

Now before you say anything... I'm not working for any computer game industries... this game just shocked me and I love it!

Don't take my word for it though, get out there and play it... and wait til you see the alternate ending... I only did it tonight.

Furthermore, any thoughts or queries you can put forward here, or if you think theres a better game out there by all means have your say. HOWEVER, I do not want 500 people coming in and saying "HALO 2 ROXORS ALL OVER THIS" or other seemingly pointless banter. If you have an opinion, express it, but give it some body and feeling as well.

Finally, long time no see guys... Glad you're all still around... even if you have become mods!!!

Insanely Yours,
Tristan ;-)

Sands of time: great graphics, great storyline, good puzzles, good gimmick, nice twist at the end.

Warrior WIthin: tried WAY to hard to improve fighting, story is crap. Stupid game....

That's why I said with body and feeling... "crap" and "stupid" doesn't explain anything... oh and a cookie to whoever knows what number game this is (hint... it's not the 2nd game)

It's the third. The original was released over a decade ago.

-PoP WW is very good, but I'm not sure about GoTY. It's been a stellar year for gamers.

I think its the 4th, but "stupid" and "crap" sounds fine to me, people dont have to read as much....

No cookies for you guys... Prince of Persia by Jordan Mechner was trhe original, followed by Prince of Persia 2: The Shadow and the Flame, followed by Prince of Persia 3D then sands of time and warrior within.

I'm such a nerd :P

There were way to many good games released this year to give any one the Game Of The Year - Halo 2 of course, but also Half-Life 2 and Fable, to name but three.

Just an observation, have you completed fable? the credits are like 10 minutes long. ALOT more people helped make fable then Halo yet its still shorter, they must have cut tonnes out of that game.

Lionhead had lots of people go in to test the game. Like me :-D

Lionhead must have low testing standards, what with the street people they let come in to test.

I agree with Fable and Halo 2 being up there... I'm yet to play HalfLife 2 though... but still this game has struck me the most so far. I even have a lump :-P

I think KotOR 2 is the game of the year, choppy framerate and dated graphics aside. I'm barely 12 hours into it and it already beats Halo 2 in the single-player department (and, to put this in perspective, I'm one of the few people around who absolutely loved Halo 2's single player campaign and story). Halo 2 has killer addicting multiplayer that's forcing me to priroitize between Xbox Live and KotOR 2...but I think KotOR 2 will win out.

Never mind it was answered...WB Gaara
But anyways my GoTY would have to be Half Life 2...it was so amazing and incredibly intense at points...KOTOR2 and Halo 2 the runnerups, respectively

You just saved me about 10 minutes, thanks. My 2005 game of the year...Star Wars Republic Commando...unless there's another Star Wars game that I don't know about besides Ep. III or a Galexies Expansion pack.

of course you did goweb, time for your pills....yay!
I have my certificate to prove it. And my name in the credits.
Lionhead must have low testing standards, what with the street people they let come in to test.
Three letters that ruined the Lionhead testing department: M. S. N.
