Ok, this is the thing. I was playing both halo's in quick succession (I played one level, switched games, played another on Halo 1, switched games...) And I Think I realised that... The Melee Attacks in Halo 2 were a fair amount weaker. I tested out this theory multiple times on three units, and got this. (Note- this is a full frontal attack, not a sneak attack)
Results-

Melee to kill grunts in Halo 1- 1. In halo 2 - 2
Melee to kill Elites in Halo 1- 3-4. In halo 2- 4
Melee to kill Jackal in Halo 1- 1. In halo 2- 3
Those were basically all the only similar units that were in both Halos...
So is it just me, or did it get weaker in halo 2?

I haven't actually tested and compared anything, but I've also felt melee became weaker in Halo 2.

However one thing I noticed is that in Halo 2, melee actually stuns a foe for a brief second or so (this works great on Energy Sword carrying Elites). Perhaps it's damage was toned down to balance this out.

Yah, that seems reasanoble, except for the fact that you need to get a good clean shot to thier head for it to stun them.
Or maybe its just a good clean shot. But I'm glad to know that its not just my copy or its just not me...
