The social capacity of the Halo Nation is staggering. I have met some the best friends in my world playing Halo. While that might sound unhealthy, all friendships begin with a common interest. The platforms for community and interaction enable us to really illustrate our personalities playing this game.

The first real life connection was made when someone from my friends list came to my bachelor party. My wife [then fiance] was none too amused.

"How do you know this person? How can you trust this person?"

"Baby, this guy has covered my back through some pretty fierce combat. He's a good man. I would [and do] trust him with my life."

SInce then, we have hosted an annual LAN Party on Labor Day Weekend. Meeting gamers in person is always surreal. It's an odd thing to admit that a video game has greatly enriched the group of people in this world that I call "Friends". We even started a business together, launching a charitable foundation.

That's what camping trips are for ;)

I met my best friend on Halo:CE PC about a year ago, one day he joined my server, we got along and we talked on msn continually, and even though he lives in America and I live in England, he is still my best friend,
Thanks Cody if you read this. :D.

Sadly, I've never met anyone through Halo in real life. And unless you're signing up for Pro Gamer or Bungie Staff, there's no way in hell you can get a job playing Halo.

Next year, though, I'm gonna say hi to my Group leader and eat hamburgers with him. He's cool.

My girlfriend always hated Halo, but didn't hate all video games. I told her that she was more than welcome to play Halo with me, and that she might enjoy it. She always refused to play, strictly on the merits that she hated it and was stubborn. Sooooo.....

She also always wanted to have her picture posted on www.collegehumor.com. On collegehumor, users can select to "Like" a picture, and it keeps tallies of how many "likes" each picture gets. Because my girlfriend is smoking hot and the internet likes boobs, I told her she'd get well over 1000 likes. Being modest, she said she'd be lucky to get 100 likes. So, I made a bet with her that if her picture got 1000 "Likes," she would have to play Halo 3 with me. Within 24 hours of posting the picture, she got 1000 likes. So, when Halo 3 came out, we went out at midnight, and picked a copy up. We played single player until 3:30 in the morning, and eventually beat campaign together.

This was a gift and a curse. On one hand, she now loves halo: watching me play, playing herself, and using Halo inside jokes in everyday conversation. The bad side is, when I come home and want to play Halo, she is hogging my Xbox. So, while Halo didn't spurn our love, I thought this was a fitting story for this thread.

I was going to put a link to the picture, but it's NSFW. It contains two nipples. That are pierced. And belonging to a female. However, it is extremely tasteful. If someone can clear up whether or not I can post the link without catching a forum banhammer, let me know, and I'll edit with the link.

me and my girlfriend werent allowed to see each other because of her parents so after she was grounded off of the phone, computer, and leaveing her house.
Using her brothers 360 i set up an account for her and we talked using halo as well as our relationship grew leading to me proposing and finally the two of us becoming Mr. and Mrs. Robinson

I met my now husband while casually playing Halo2 on xbox live when it first came out. Sure, we hear a lot of crap about it at times but it was great because we weren't looking for romance at the time but were able to build a strong friendship through a mutual love of the game. The following year he moved 500 miles to the state where I lived to pursue a relationship. We were married later that year and now have a two year old son. Together, we run our site's competitive team the Halo 3 Junkies from halo3.junk.ws so we still use the mutual love of halo to be able to spend time together.

We've also met some amazing people along the way, mostly through online halo communities and I'd honestly say that I consider many of these people just as close to me as local friends.

Although it seems a bit embarrassing to tell people "I met my husband on xbox live", I tend to try to keep a realistic outlook on the situation. People generally connect with friends or significant others through mutual interests. If you are a big drinker, chances are that you'll meet the majority of new people at bars or parties. If you are into cars, chances are you'll meet people through tracks, car clubs, or even body shops. All of us on here just so happen to enjoy video games and I'm not surprised at the response so far that suggests many of us feeling close to other people that we've met through this game and even find romance!

... and yes, I'm a real, live girl playing Halo. If there was any question before, there shouldn't be now due to my mushy gushy response! :D

There are only 10 kinds of people, those who understand binary, and those who do not.

Halo 3 helped me learn how to use a Sniper Rifle. Now I'm a mass murderer, still at large. It's soooo easy, all you have to do is aim above the persons head, because real people's headshot hit areas are there too.

And when I go to beat my wife, I always win because I have more health, it doesn't matter if she hits first.

Oh yeah, and when I go to hang out with my friends, we just sit around for hours on end, because we can't find that last person to play whatever game.. Because uneven teams are just unfair...

Jump feet first into Hell in ODST Recon, THE place to be on B.net!
"Fifty years from now, when you're looking back on your life, don't you want to be able to say that you had the courage to get in the car?"

I've met a lot of people on Halo who are now good friends. We play almost every day. Halo also led me to one of my favorite b.net groups, which is a fun community in itself!

I once got a killtacular on halo. Me and my friends decided to do a joke and we put it on my resume for Mcdonalds. Once I got hired my boss came up to me and said, "Oh, you play halo. My son does too. I think you'd do great with him in the Drive-through window." :( But yes this is a true story and me and my friends still laugh about it today, where now I have a real job for a Logistics company. I still play Halo now and I continue to tell the story to everyone I play with.

Hmm....I take offense to your use of "Any person" under the age of 16. We're not all like that, it's just sad that the majority of us are as you described. Some of us (Myself included) are pretty much the opposite of what you said we were.

Anyway, onto topic now. I've met rather a good few of my now best friends in the early days of halo 2, and a 1 or 2 more in halo 3. Thanks Bungie :)

I'm a grad student doing experimental physics at Brookhaven National Lab. When I was dropped in front of a high power laser a couple of years ago and told to steer the beam over a long and tortured path with sub millimeter precision I at first despaired. I cheered up when I realized I could apply all those hours of precision BR and sniper and rocket fire to anticipate where the beam would go when I made ridiculously small adjustments to the tilts of my mirrors. It's the same fine motor control and intuition. Thank you Halo!

Me and my Girlfriend starting going out on September 25th 2006. Then exactly one year later Halo 3 came out on our one year anniversary. It was probably the best day ever I got Halo at midnight, played all morning, then slept while she was at school, then had a nice date. followed by playing halo with her. Luckily enough she likes Halo too, so after a long day of Halo 3, sleep, a date, more Halo 3 and "other things" I was exhausted. So I went to bed and the next day finished up the last two levels of campaign, then began to pwn the noobs on Xbl.

Dropping into hell.....feet first

I used to work at a video store that was connected to a video game store (bet you guys will have trouble guessing what chain this was). ANYWAYS they would have tournaments every month and give away a prize as determined by their manager. However, this paticular location was not one of the finest of the organizations, so they couldn't really afford to give any more then they had to. So each month they made it a Halo tournament, and since they could not participate themselves, they would come over to the video store side and grab me and 2 of my fellow employees and have us compete. They would spread us out amongst the brackets and 5 months in a row, one of us won. The best part, nobody ever seemed to pick up we worked in the adjacent store and figured out what was going on. =)

On a fine August day, the wind swept oh so gently over the crisp, bronze leaves... an owl hooted soulfully from it's nest... and the Sun submerges itself into the horizon, bathing the landscape in beautiful orange... then I played Halo 3, someone on my team asked me if I wanted to be king of a large Caribbean island and I said OK so here I am from my throne telling other of my story. The End.

No really.

I totally mean it.

Honest.
