On a Win XP machine. We've installed Halo a month ago and after playing it, if I switch users, I get a Norton message saying "Your anti virus is turned off". It turns itself back on, but is Halo doing this? This doesn't happen after doing anything else but playing this game. How can I make this stop? I have 1 GB of RAM and a 512K video card, so it's not as if I need to have anitvirus turned off for the game to work. (Is it?) I also am sure I don't have a virus or spyware.

Well, Gamespy Arcade is installed as it came with Halo. Should I get rid of this? (We don't play online at all).

Thanks for your help

I don't personally use Norton, but a friend of mine does and he doesn't have the problem you specify. I would double check to see if you have a virus just for peace of mind if nothing else.

As for Gamespy, if you run Spybot Search and Destroy, it detects it as spyware. I have never installed it myself but other family members have and this is what they tell me.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

right. i have norton too, and have never had this problem
i can only imagine a few possibilities, but i'm not gonna try and scare you
but, do you turn on your computer and immedatly load halo? if you do, the antivirus might just not load by the time you open halo, and just doesn't afterword.
but other than that........

Iamwhie, oh, come on, what are the possibilities? Telll me I can take it. I honestly don't have a virus. It's been double/triple checked over and over. Spyware: No. And no, I don't start Halo immediately upon turning on the machine. It just seems to be after my husband plays is (logged in under his name in XP) and then he logs off, I log on, and Norton tells me it's off and it turns itself back on.

well, that might just be because when you log out of windows, windows closes and goes into some sort of standby phase, and therefore processes like virusscan are disabled. when you log back on, it tells you that it was off during that time. since you can't download/install anything when you're logged off it realy shouldn't be a problem at all (unless it doesn't restart again). i can't tell you what i was thinkning of before (it was a while ago), but i rember it wasn't a virus or spyware.

Iamwhie, ah, thanks. That does kinda make sense but it's odd that it just started appearing. On another note, the message usually flashes up and closes so fast I can't even read it. I just caught a long glimpse of it one time--that's how I knew what it said. Thanks all for your help.

Heyyo,

Hit the print screen button. It takes a quick screenshot of the screen, so paste that in that paint program, and there ya go. Then you can post here what the problem is.

I also use norton antivirus, I use 2004. So far yeah, each time you log off an account it turns off. It's safe at that point cause it closes all network connections, and only reopens once the computer's done loading. ;)
