Meh, all measurements are subjective and based on ego-centricity.

* Light year? Based on how long it takes our planet to orbit our sun. Biased.
* AU? Based on the distance from our planet to our sun. Biased.
* Meter? Originally based on the circumference of the Earth and Base 10 math. Biased.
* Time? Based on the rotation of our planet. Biased.
* Degrees of arc? Based on the orbit of our planet around the sun. Biased.
* Imperial measurements? Based on the size of the King's foot, his arm, or the size of baskets. Biased.
* Base 10 math? Based on the number of digits on the human hand. Biased.

How is this on-topic? Well dear readers, it actually is.

Just like the above measurements are simply labels that people put on something to help it to make sense, so are rules on social interaction. Sure, they are the utter definition of bias, subjectivity and arbitrary. But people agree to use them in order to rise above chaos. Until a standard is agreed on (no matter how irrational that standard may or may not appear to others), nothing can be accomplished.

So the rules are there, some think they are too harsh, others think not stringent enough. Some have problems with how liberally they are enforced, others want them to be enforced with no interpretation or leeway at all.

Despite that, they exist and the vast majority know them, understand them, use them and take them as "constants". Just like any of those horribly biased systems of measurement that are listed above.

Does all this mean that UK'ers get to flame more because the Euro is worth more than the dollar?

Taxes do nothing to affect the share of wealth, since taxes are only applied to income.

So that's not even a part of the conversation at all, so it's pointless talking about it....

"for a "best" moral to exist, there must exist the "best" moral base. If the base of morality varies from location to location, culture to culture...then there can't be an absolute moral..

You assume that a "year" is a constant.

What is that measurement based on?

The velocity of light in a vacuum is a constant. The units of measurement that we use to describe that velocity as a speed are not universal.

yup, any and all units of measurement are arbitrarily selected. selecting units of time are no less arbitrary than picking units of distance in space.

Actually, I think that means we need to develop a system (with MS points as the standard) where any member whose currency is higher valued, they need to pay a fee (in MS Points, automatically deducted from their XBL balance and deposited as $US into my account) in order to "level the playing field" when it comes to forum interactions.

After all, we cannot allow people on here with "power currency at spawn" to dominate those who start with a less powerful, less valued currency.

It's just not fair!
please. No more M$ points. I hate Microsoft points. Their to greedy and they like to overprice everything. Thats their scheme of the actual cost. *insert 800 M$ points to continue* Damn it see! I have to pay to continue typing. And as if they couldn't get enough money. Hell. I bet they make their employees pay to use their restrooms. Why don't they just rename their saying to "Your money our, passion!"

What people don't realise is that a recession in the value of the dollar is not a bad thing.

Exports will increase as foreign currencies can purchase more per capita by importing US goods. Domestic goods in the US will decrease in cost relative to imported, foreign goods as well. Both of these will add a much needed boost to our economy.

Specific goods and services, like housing (a huge concern of mine), education (a huge concern of my parents), and health care (a huge concern of both mine and my parents) should decrease to a much more realistic value in the next few years as people have less money to "piss away".

A "recession" is not a "depression". We're definately not heading towards another 1920's, "take-all-your-money-and-hide-it-in-the-walls-of-your-ho me" economic status, but we should still be cautious as to how far the value of the US dollar does decline.

Need help finding skulls, make sure to go here.

Man, at how many other forums other than Bungie can the community take a topic about the current rules system, and move it onto the topic of economics and measurements?

I love you guys.

That was amazing. How did you do that, tying that into the current topic and all?

Also, does this mean that you guys ARE always right? Pfft. How biased. :(

Rules are not too strict. The rules are fine, and as far as I can tell, we enforce them just fine. And according to Zag, mods are always right.

Exactly. So we can all go home happy.

That is, all of us who didn't fall victim to the abuse of power that the moderators enjoy. >_>
:D

Nah, actually, I'd say this place has just the right rules. It comes down to the individual moderator on how hard they're enforced, though. For example, Shishka used to give (almost) zero lee-way on anything. Some of the mods now are more 'friendly' to the average user. Still, I wouldn't mind a new Shishka. Those were the days.. :D

Have you seen Pezz? That is one hard-ass moderater. I came into the Septagon one day and said good morning. He BL'ed me for being too cheerful in the morning then kicked me in the junk and stole my pink 360 controller.

That Pezza guy is a bad ass. Keep an eye out for him! He's the one who looks like Yahoo Serious.

File forum rules need to be alittle stricter

As for example

1 bump = 3 day ban

2 - 3 = 45 day ban

4+ = 90 day ban

Also the H3 forum rules say to not discuss R but theres still like 25 threads on it a day so ban all those ppl for 1 - 3 days and maybe they'll get the point.

  • 01.04.2008 10:49 AM PDT

I remember when I used this space to put cool looking links to my chapters back in the day. I don't even know why I'm using it now. Why are you even reading this? You must be interested in me. Still reading?

Seriously, if you are so intwined to playing Xbox Live, why would it mater for us here to see them? Why don't you just share your screenshots or clips with other Xbox Live users. People can take advantage of features on Halo 3 like Forge. For example, someon might be kid of agry or hold a grudge torwards a certain moderator *cough* and would spell out "-blam!- stosh!" (don't take this seriously, just making an example) with sniper rifles and Rocket Launchers. This would be another post to wastemoderators time to delete and/or lock while enjoying-ly banning that user until he rots in the depths of the Seventh Column.

This is just a small piece of the many reasons Bungie.net doesn't allow them.

Not exactly, maybe a bit and I think its ridicolous that you get banned by talking about the Recon armor....Otherwise its fine.
And Bungie should post a reason for why they are locking threads before they're locking it....

The mods did let the Recon armor threads slide in the beginning, but when 1/2 of the Halo 3 board was filled with "can has Recon?" threads it was time to put a stop to it.

It's a dead topic. What possible constructive conversation can come out of a Recon thread?

which in many cases, bumps it.

We let topic creators know when they have broken a rule. We don't need to reward them for breaking one.

As to banned for mentioning Recon? I typically warn (via a message from the Soul), if they have one of those on record and are ignoring it? then they get banned. Or if they say "I know I am not supposed to, but can I has?" Why warn them? They know that they are making a disruption, what benefit will a warning give?

Well yeah, good points. I actually didnt mean the "can has recon" threads, of course you should get banned for that but I meant more like that you're getting warned just for mentioning it...witch is ridicolous (however its spelled...)

The rules are the rules of course...

You can mention recon just fine, as long as it's placed in the right conext. Begging for it etc, does get you banned, but that's something the forum brought upon itself.

Way to go, forum.

If not for the people who revealed the secret of the IWHBYD skull, Bungie could very well be a better place. Because I personally think that has something to do with the descent of Bungie's armor- related sledgehammer of wrath.

1. Hayabusa would have some level of coolness and uniqueness, instead it has become the gear of choice for.....everyone! I rock EVA for a couple reasons: I don't have security yet, I don't have Recon, and the Hayabus annoys me due to its extreme density in the community. Bungie hoped that the helmet would be available to some very vigilant and skilled players, and now my puppy goes into battle wearing it. Someone puts the secret on an internet pedestal available to all, and you're surprised they didn't give you Recon?

2. Maybe Bungie would have given more people Recon if they weren't stupid about it? hmmm

I think that the Recon is pretty stylish, and I wish I had the chestpiece so badly, but you can't just flood the forum with Recon spam, otherwise you wouldn't be able to read anything else!

I actually mention Recon all the time on the site, and not once have I been disciplined for it, because my mentioning of it isn't begging.
