In all fairness most if not all of these rules are common on other web boards and guidelines for posting on this website constantly fluctuate because of the variety and quantity of posting done here.

I for one think they are.....for example people are not allowed to talk about that-which-must-not-be-named whcih is a type of armor which i think everyone would like to discuss.
This was basically a necessity. The community elevated something so minuscule and remote about the game that it was completely blown out of proportion. The need to quell this surge of repeat and habitual posting was necessary in order to maintain order on the forums; you see this as harsh... in hindsight, it's a logical move.
Now in due time, rules and guidelines are repealed but only once we feel the community is ready for stable and appropriate discussion on subjects. This is the same with all forums.

Another example which I find is the worst of all is the fact that we are no longer allowed to make screenshot or film clip 'contests'.
I mean this is a forum that we the public use a hell of a lot and what are forums for.... discussing and (for the mulimedia type ones) reviewing each others items.Im using this example mainly because its a forum and that doin these '''advertise your screenshots here!!!!''' contests would lower congestion and lower the amount of people that constantly do the dreaded bump.......
I could understand this from your view, however, there is one thing that has always shown up whenever I went to the screenshot Forum. Always, every single time before this rule was set in place. That is, there would be one thread for advertisement, one single thread on the front page. I refresh the page, and one more pops up; brand new, telling people to advertise their screenshots there; then another, and another, and another. You see, these and the Contests aren't actual contests nor are they to advertise your very own screenshot; they are to get your attention, so you could rate and download the original posters content. Nothing more.
Rokit has the right idea here.

anyway i voted that someting should be done but life's a pain and itl never hapen, i wish that the rules for Moderators were more defined, recently i got a Warning from a mod [not named] whilst TWO other mods had no problem with the topic even going so far as to post in it, its a shame that this can happen, id prefer if lower ranknig mods still had to check with a more authoritive figure before issuing warnings and the like.
I insist that you contact Achronos if you ever have a complaint with a Moderator or a course of action taken. There is always room for improvement and we do get feedback, anything really helps.
And I've been working on defining the rules a little better for the community. With definitions and examples as to what is appropriate and what isn't. More on that in the future.

I am not a big fan of those forums anyway. I think that they first need to begin rebuilding/just plain building the forum community by beginning with making sure trouble makers are removed. From there I think it's wise that all members try to use more basic, English 1, grammar, and less AIM speak. After that, the use of a search bar would cut down on a large number of repeated posts. Of course, the search feature isn't perfect, so some are expected.
Sadly you probably weren't here before Bungie.net re-launch where we actually did have a very friend and active community. I only saw one person ever get banned from Bungie.net pre-2004.
In a perfect world people would actually take the time to respond properly. While we do encourage it, it is rather hard to enforce.
