I'll be on my own side.

Most people here don't even have the intelligence for debate on most of the restricted topics anyway. Besides, we have groups like Body Politic and The Black Chapter for that.

I don't see anything wrong with certain topics being restricted. One, this is a forum dedicated to a video game, the studio that makes it, and the community that's formed around it, and two, the off topic forum is a cesspit of spammers and idiots, which makes it a bit hard to have a reasonably intelligent discussion about politics, religion, the war, etc.

Dura lex, sed lex.

Huh? Why come that mean?

Eh? It means something like "This law is harsh, but it's still the law."
hmmmmm. Laws are for lawyers. hehe. just to let you all know. My cat is licking my Coffey table leg and purring for no apparent reason. Should I make a rule so she Doesn't? Or should I just leave her their so she looks all cute and cuddly?

Is that the correct metaphor for the situation? When you think about it, spamming, flaming, the "can has" threads, "contests"...none of these are cute and cuddly...it's pointless, melodramatic, and mainly just annoying. You can't not create rules for people to abide by, otherwise the ninjas would be practically non-existent, with nothing to enforce and no real reason to bring the banhammer on someone...

The rules are fine. I've been a member for 1.5 years and I've been warned once and banned for 3 days. That's it...

I am not a big fan of those forums anyway. I think that they first need to begin rebuilding/just plain building the forum community by beginning with making sure trouble makers are removed. From there I think it's wise that all members try to use more basic, English 1, grammar, and less AIM speak After that, the use of a search bar would cut down on a large number of repeated posts. Of course, the search feature isn't perfect, so some are expected.

Yeah, and the Middle East should just sort itself out and stop fighting.

Ass.

I'm sorry, what do you want me to say? "Oh no, just let them stay stupid, har har har, they so dumb!"?

To Yoozel:
No, I didn't join way back then. I joined at a simpler time even. A time where if you were from the Zanzibar forum, there was but one rule, attack The Flood. Of course, I was new, and had no idea what was going on, and just basked in the stupidity.

So your saying that the "This is true because its what I beleive" approach to discussion isn't intelligent?

I think forum rules is pretty cool guy, eh keeps trolls at bay and doesn't afraid of anything...

They've probably had to enforce them more often because of Halo 3 being out. I mean for every original/worthwhile post there about seven "spam" posts, whereas before it was down to maybe 1:2-3. Maybe a way to combat this is to make the forums page significantly longer, keeping more "good" posts on page 1 where they're more likely to get noticed? I wouldn't know, I'm not too forum savvy, things don't seem to be all that bad so let's leave it at that IMO...

That's actually a brilliant idea now that I think of it.

I can see where you're all coming from...though i do think the rules are rules and it makes this forum a much better place.
...there's just one or two silly things that are banned that shouldnt be (though i can't think of them now)
But to be honest what 3 quarters of you are saying are all valid points ( about the rules being strict and .good etc) and you've made me see that the rules are there help us and yeah.....THEY AINT TO HARSH...

I don't think that was intended as a metaphor. Epidemic isn't that deep. Not intentionally, anyway.

I say we ban all the 'kittens' of B.net.

"I pledge to punch all switches, to never shoot where I could use grenades, to admit the existence of no level except Total Carnage, to never use caps lock as my "run" key, and to never, ever, leave a single BoB alive."

2B || !2B - Why don't you look Inside the Machine?

You want to know why rules are here? Because people are here. People can not act reasonably and maturely enough to allow the discussion of such things banned by the rules. If you want less restrictions and rules then be better people in the forums. End.

Those are the only two I know of! >_>

To be honest, I hardly go to those groups, so I've no idea what they're like.

From the ashes

No, the forum rules are fair. This is a big company that has gotten a lot of people joining this site everyday, rules are needed to keep the peace and make it friendly. Now if Bungie made them harsher they might lose some people or these threads could become more constant, and if they were for some reason to be more easy, most likely chaos would run a mock. How the rules are implemented now are fair and balanced, and I don't find them hard to live by, but some people do though and I'm not sure why.Just my view on this.

New Flood the home of all things random

OMG, gaming for the fun of it.

I think the rules are for the majority of the communities protection and protect against excess spamming and flaming. If there is anything you wish to discuss there are numerous groups where you are free to talk about what you wish.
