Please excuse my venting, but there is just something I want to share.
Well, I've been playing Halo 3 since about after the first week it came out. I never really played Halo 2, and I played about 15 minutes of the first Halo on my PC. So basically I don't have that much experience to begin with. Anyway, I have met a lot of nice people in matchmaking at first, mainly because I was a newer player, and I got teamed up mostly with newer players. As I gained more EXP points, I wound up in matches with better players. Over time, I would meet up with some people who are either Commanders, Brigadiers, Colonels and such. Some have been very nice, but in recent time, I had joined in with friends who are of a pretty high rank. So obviously, we get teamed or fight against higher ranks. Some, if not most, of the matches we go into, it's an all out flamefest. The kicker is that the ones who are the most brutal are Commanders, Brigadiers, etc. All I hear is insulting, making fun of others, sometimes going too far with some comments. This also goes on with teammates! Even in the match itself if you didn't do something right they will flame you. Needless to say, I don't say much until everyone had left. Yes, I do own a mic.
I come and play in Matchmaking to meet up with new people, have fun and enjoy myself and gain some experience in playing these type of games. I'm not saying all people with higher ranks are bad people, but I find more and more high ranking players arrogant and just rude to others. Maybe it's just the "luck of the draw" of guys I get teamed up with or fight against but I don't know. It just kind of discourages me to play much.
Anyway, I thought I'd share this. I don't really post much on forums. Thanks for reading anyway.
Please understand that you will always come across people who are jerks and have to learn how to approach/handle the situation. The best way to go about this and enhancing your overall online experience with others is to simply use the Xbox guide features appropriately. You can select the player's name during the countdown or hold the back button and scrolling down with the right button in game; mute the player to avoid any further annoyance or disruption.

If the player or team chooses to take it a step further, do not talk back or make the issue worse. Go to your recent players list and select the player you are having confrontations with. Avoid the player by submitting a player review and then give the system feedback as to the reason why you avoided them. If the player is causing problems with other players and keeps getting avoided, their reputation will go down and they could possibly receive a suspension from playing online.

Just as a overview, don't get involved with gamers who are rude and disrespectful. By avoiding them, you are telling Xbox Live that you do not wish to play with them again and chances of matching up again are very unlikely. We at Bungie.net cannot do anything to solve this issue for you, but we can give you advice and suggestions to help you. I realize that you are not an active poster on the public forums, but to prevent future warnings and suspensions it is advisable to read the forum rules and review the guidelines for each forum. Every forum on Bungie.net is dedicated to a specific topic and making posts not related to that forum is considered off topic. If you are not sure about where you should post a topic, the off topic "The Flood" forum would most likely be the safest choice.

I appreciate and thank you for the advice. It's pretty much everything I knew already though. Been there, done that. My gripe is about why higher ranked people act the way they are and feel they can get away with that. MY best advice is to ignore them and not worry about it. Just play the darn game. Have fun. I wish they'd do the same.

Again, thank you for the information. :)

Don't assume anything, because it makes an "ASS-" out of "-U-" and "-ME"

They probably came from MLG. I don't put down MLG, it's just that the majority of them are complete wankers, or jerks, as you might call them. Their forum is the next forum I'll be reviewing, and I don't think they'll do to well.

They, are being a little too competitive for MM, CrypticGuardian is right about it. Give negative feedback and mute them. It should work, unless they are abusing the feedback system, then you're in a bit of a problem. What they do is give positive feedback to newer, not as skilled players so that they'll be matched again, then they'll trash talk and insult you. Hey, sometimes it'll back fire, they'll leave the feed back, and then get they're arse kicked 3 times over, that left them speechless last time! it was great!

Higher rank divisions are naturally more competetive, so I'm not surprised you notice this. If it becomes intolerable, you should play social matches. The games might not be as closely matched, but you're a lot less likely to find jerks.

That's great too. But this works especially well for me.

Change your XBL Gamerzone to Recreation or Family.

Often, cocky and overcompetitive players would obviously be in the Pro or Underground Zones.

Since XBL Gamerzones control matchmaking in every game, icluding Halo 3, you are more likely (not guaranteed) to not be matched up with jerks/ trash talkers/ glitchers and cheaters/ MLG players/ overcompetitive players.

Hope that helps!

I remember when I used this space to put cool looking links to my chapters back in the day. I don't even know why I'm using it now. Why are you even reading this? You must be interested in me. Still reading?

There are always going to be those few people who taking gaming way to far. When I had XBL for Halo 2, I didn't hear anything but, "Ha! I just pwnt that -blam!- noob! Ha! Loser!" And I just either reported them or got right back and noobed the hell out of them with the Plasma pistol, battle rifle combo. They get mad and leave most of the time but you will get used to it. Most of the high ranked people on XBL will act like that. Just report them or show them who the better player is.

I really haven't noticed a difference between higher level players being more obnoxious than lower level players.

But here's my advice. The #1 greatest feature of H3 is not co-op, not the shiny new graphics, not the bubble shield, it's the ease in which we can mute people. Before the douche on the other team can even finish his sentence, I can click on his GT, scroll down and mute his ass. Problem solved.

Well, I do play social matches and still get people like that. I've also played in ranked with great people who want to still party up after a blah game. I guess it's all just hit or miss.

You people have just sent my sides into orbit. A bunch of MLG try hards sucking the dick of some supposed pro half the thread hasn't even heard of. Classic.

Did you play against my party last night? If so that would explain a bit. We were a bit trashy last night. Anywho this is more of a topic for the Halo 3 forum so I guess I will move it.

Yeah I hear you DarcMetal. However, this is more or less (for me) occuring for lower ranked people (which is REALLY funny).

What? What is this? An intelligent angry post on the Halo 3 forum!
Good job in keeping your cool man, respect.
I just remember to laugh at them. They are just nerdy insecure teenagers. When it gets to you, just quit. But I just remember that it's just words and they don't know where you live, so what can they do? They can keep being lame is what. And you can keep laughing at them, internally of course.
Good luck!
