I notice in my wanderings of forums, websites and so on that people cant seem to figure out what halo CE is and once they have it, how they use it. Well new people., here is your manual, dont lose it.
Lets start from the very beginning.
Commonly asked questions:
1. What is Halo CE?
Halo CE is a program, similar to Halo PC, but is a multiplayer program only. It has many improvements over Halo PC.
2. What is different about Halo CE?
When using specular lighting, their is much less loss of framerate-
The F2 button can be pressed to give you a HUD of the game which contains all the game settings, the game mode and the message of the day as well-
The F3 button can be pressed which will activate a name above all the players on your team, and can be pressed to give one the classic nametag gametype-
The code, the netcode that is is much more improved, which means that for example, rockets from a rocket hog will actually travel to where one aims on the second and third shot-
And the thing that REALLY makes Halo CE unique, its ability to download, froms over two hundred selections, different types of playing maps such as "New Mombasa(a personal favorite of mine) Fissure Fall, Quagmire, and Zanzibar."
3. I downloaded Halo CE and want to get all these awesomely cool maps but dont where to get the maps or know what folder to save them to or what I do after I have saved them. Do you know what to do?
Yes I do. I have had this problem and know what to do. First, all CE downloadable CE maps are in .rar. format meaning one can't just download and go. The maps are compressed which means that they have to be decompressed and one way of doing this is to download the program that will allow the map to be decompressed. To get this, go to http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm. Select the top choice "WinRAR 3.42. one has to go to one needs a place/places from where you get your maps. Download that file to any selected folder. Find it after it is downloaded and double click the icon, which is three little books. Now that you have that, maps can now be downloaded and used. Now one needs place/places where they can get their maps. Single maps and entire mapacks can be downloaded. Here are sites that maps can be downloaded from.
halouniverse.com
haloimpulse.com-this is probably the best
halomods.com
halomaps.com
But haloimpulse.com should cover all the basic needs. Well anyways select the map/maps that you would want. Here is where people tend to get lost so I will give the next intructions with ridiculous simplicity. When you are asked where to save the download go all the way to the left to "My Computer" and select. Out of those options select "Local Disk (C:). In the next list of options, select "Program Files". Once in their, go through the options until you find "Microsoft Games". Click on the "Halo Custom Edition" folder. Now look through the folders within the folder until you find "Maps" folder. Save the map/maps in this folder.
Once the download is complete, close all your windows. Go to your desktop. Hit start, and select "My Computer", now Local Disk C, now Program Files, Microsoft Games, Halo Custom Edition, and Maps. Now in your map folder look through till you find the map you downloaded. It will have the icon of three little books next to it. Right click on it. Now, if you guys downloaded the Winrar thing like I said earlier then you should see, when you right click on the map, three options with the little winrar icon next to them. Select the extract files option. This will bring up a window with the words "Exraction paths and options" at the top and a bunch of stuff. To extract the map files to the right spot, you'll see all the way to the right a miniturized file list. Click "My Computer", now open Local Disk C, then open, Program Files, next open microsoft games, then Halo CE. In the Halo CE folder, find the map folder, click on it once, and then hit ok at the bottom. It will then extract. I
4. What about problems that might occur?
Yeah, some things pop up and I dont some that might occur. The only thing that seems to happen with maps is that sometimes you might come up with a message during extraction sayign that you have the you already have what is being extracted. Just select yes, its simpler to overwrite whats already their. When it is completed extracting, which will take a couple of seconds, unless its a map pack, which takes a couple of minutes at most.
AM I DONE?
Yes, congragulations. You have the map/maps done. Now turn off what you want to, start up Halo CE, and play. One little warning. The more maps you load, the longer Halo CE takes to load, but its worth it. So go ahead and play.
