Well I am going to be getting Halo CE for the computer soon, and I'm great at modding games. I was just wondering what the basic procedure is for modding halo 1 maps and/or characters, since plenty of people have suggested I make my halo 2 map ideas into halo 1 mods. I'd like to know:

- Is it possible to mod the model of the chief, not just change the skin but actually change the model?
- What format are the 3d models in?
- What is the most common program used to mod maps?

- Thanks

You need a 6000$ program called 3ds Max and halo CE and HEK.

halo ce and hek are free. 3ds max...oh there are ways I'm sure you know of to get it ;)

Basically, they give you a free trial for like 60 days, which is plenty of modding. After that, uninstall, redownload the demo, and continue :P

in addition to 3ds max, you need the blitzkrieg plugin. Instructions for installation and the download can be found at the gearbox forums.

Heyyo,

Or you could play it easy and get gmax... that's free and pretty much 3d studio max...

You can change the models, the sounds, everything. Look at that Zanzibar mod for an example. ;)

Heyyo,

Hmm, I dunno the validity of getting it off the torrent network (bittorrent's just a download client for it....), cause you do need to register n' stuff befroe they send you a free legal cd key to use with gmax. Don't worry, registration's free too. So yeah, give the torrent network a shot if you want.
