Long live the Last Refuge!

Well since me and about 4 other people where going off topic with my PC upgrading proplem i just dicided to make a thread. Well we already got to the part that they said i should just get a new PC, well my mom's only willing to pay around $700 maybe $750. So i need i idea's for PC to get. I'm only going to use it for gaming and internet (with some video making). I already got my sights on this, Intel Pentium Duel-Core Processer E2180 with 17"LCD Widescreen monitor and all-in-one printer. 2GB DDR2 memory, 500GB hard drive and nVIDIA GeForce 7100 graphics. But im wondering if there's anything better for the price of $680 (has this instant savings things for), but is there anything better?

I'm sorry to burst your bubble shield, dude, but those parts are hardly "hardcore." Have you considered building your own rig?

You can get better parts for the same price, man, but I can see it would be difficult for you. Could you consider saving up more money, perhaps a hundred bucks or so more?

Forum Rules for those who care to know what they are.

"Bs: Blame stosh for all of your BS!"

Get an Alienware computer off their website or Gamestop.com, they are the best gaming computers. Even laptops work well, but they are pretty huge.

NO!!
Building is the best way to go. You know exactly what your getting and save money for same parts or get better parts for the same cost.

Not to mention the pride of Doing it yourself ;)

Building is no longer the best way to go in terms of price, but if you are reasonably smart and have time, it's the best way to go for reliability. Alienware computers fail. You can tell people have no idea what they are talking about when they somehow think that the hardware in an alienware is automatically better. That's just not how computers work.

Also, what do you mean by "laptops work well, but they are huge"? I'm still puzzling over that one.

XPS is better then Alienware for the price, but most Dell stuff sucks, there monitors are better then decent.
My comp is Cheaper then that one but better in my opinion. I just reused an optical drive, hard drive, and monitor from my last computer.

Then I got a Geforce 8600GT, Core 2 Duo E6550 OC'ed to 2.8GHz, 2 GB DDR2-800, and a SLI mobo, it was $650 before, now its about $550 for that. I love decreases in price, but AMD is better for a home built PC on a budget.

Not really. Low end-cards are never worth it. If you need a cheap, good card you should get a Geforce 7600GS which is only like $75-80. And the price of the 8600GT is down to $80 bucks on newegg.com.

one second let me see which one i was looking at.

Yeah the one i was looking at was XFX - NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT Graphics Card for $81

Most of the PC issues posted here are the result of PEBKAC.

The Radeon 3850 is about ~$175 right now, and they reduced the price of the 2900XT, which is not a recommended build unless you like noise and heat.

Don't bother with any Geforce 8 Series card under the 8800. They aren't very good and are usually outperformed by 7 Series cards. For $81 you should just get a 7600GT.

In the processor section the E4500 is good as a budget processor, I'm not too sure about the performance of AMD's products, as I've only ever used one of their CPU's.

ONe more thing: you'll save a lot more money if you buy DDR2, DDR is expensive right now.

Ok I found one for $70 (with rebate), now i remember something you guys never told me what my mother board took after i told you guys my package.

Socket AM2 (940) I'm planing to open up my PC later today, but if you guys can find out sooner it would be great.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

I've had nothing but bad luck with AMD, so I am reluctantly preparing to buy some kind of "Intel Core Duo socket 775" processor and corresponding motherboard.

Yeah next person who says Alienware is good gets a kick in the face.

Seriously people. You can get the same components and wiring job at ibuypower or ABS or something. And yet people continue to buy Alienware's stuff, mostly cause of the case. If you're going to blow that much money, you better go falcon northwest or (if you really are hardcore) Voodoo.

I wonder if you can buy a alienware case (just the case).

Maybe on eBay. But why man? They have no advantages, and they're made out of cheap plastic. Not only that but if you do happen to get just the case from someone it's going to be expensive at all get out.
Go to http://www.Newegg.com and look at some cases. Not only can you choose a high-metal content case, but you can also get one with better heat dissipating qualities, more expansion possibilities, roomier interior, and (in my opinion) greater aesthetic appeal for a fraction of the price.
Don't buy into that stuff that alienware spews out.... the cases are crap and so are the components they use in them.

Long live the Last Refuge!

see i thought the case was the only good thing in a alienware computer
