Is Halo2 PC good? How about the Map Maker on it? Does it require extra components like CE does?

Not many people like H2Vista, for good reason.

Anyways, for mapmaking, while it does ship with a map editor on the disc, it's drastically inferior to Halo PC's "Custom Edition" addon. You can make maps, but custom content of pretty much any kind (new models, vehicles, weapons, etc) is locked out from being added. As weird as it sounds, if you really want to get into Halo modding/mapping and explore different forms of content, go with Halo PC & Custom Edition.

There's a reason it's called the Map Editor, not the Halo 2 Editing Kit.. One of the downsides is that you must buy 3DSMax, which is a very good modeler, but also very expensive. I've never played Halo 2, so I will get it, but there is still a small community, but it can be really fun playing with friends from here, or Halo CE.

You can't make maps without the editing kit tools, it's just a matter of H2's tools being severely locked down when compared to H1's.

Also, gmax ;)

H1 and Halo Custom edition name: madkiller92
xfire:madkiller92

Halo 2 campaign-great MP- only 50-70 people at most. And the map editor sucks. only custom MAPS! nno new vehicles or weps or new spartan models ONLY MAPS with h2 textures and stuructures no really custom stuff. and h2 has 1-2 severs on custom maps, each with 0 people. 2 people coming on at RARE RARE occasions.

Thinking of something witty to write here since 2004...

If you're buying H2V for custom content alone, look elsewhere. The H2EK is very limited. Not custom vehicles, weapons, bipeds, anything, just custom maps and so far the very vast majority of maps released for H2V have been horrible.

Halo CE's much better for custom content.

H2V is garbage when it comes to map-making. They decided to make the HEK "user-friendly", so more average people would be able to use it. But it just makes it more tedious/annoying for us veterans. Lest I forget that you need a Gold XBL account to host in that game, and a Gold account to even use your map on the dedicated server.

What the hell was Hired Gun thinking?! Why do we need a Gold account for all these retarded "features". It doesn't even make sense! We should only pay for a gold account when we use their services (such as ranked matches on Halo 3), or anything that requires service from their end. When we host our own servers, or whatever, what does Gold account have to do with anything? We're not using their services.

I've only seen one custom map on H2V, and it was flat-out generic and terrible. It was just a squar level, with a smalelr square raised in the middle, making a "race track".

What were they thinking?
