Ew, ew, and ew.

A profile bio, yes. These three things? No. MySpace is MySpace. B.net is B.net.

Completely agree with you. We attract too much of the wrong crowd already we don't want to give stosh any ideas . . .

"Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind." - Albert Einstien

PMing is a something that is used to get to the person ASAP. Comments on the other hand allow for other readers to read what the user is like and what the quality of their membership and/or profile is. Comments like "Great Maps!", or "Thanks for all the help!" may point other members in the right direction for certain things like new maps or places to ask questions.

And those of you saying there is no use for this probably would have said the same about groups if someone were to propose the idea today. "There is no real point to it, we do have the forums, all it would be is an burden on the moderators." At least open your minds to the possibility of a closer knit community. This place also wont become another myspace. Everyone who wants average blogging and freind networking already goes to myspace or facebook, there would be no point in joining here if just for blogging abilities. All this would really end up doing is enhancing the experience for people who have a common interest in Bungie.

Thanks for the reply Recon, I was trying to avoid as many problems as I could with the initial post as to try and appeal to the community, but even when it comes to more text on your profile they have reasons not to want it. Asking for change is like kicking them in the nuts, its the last thing they ever want.

Also, you could just report any negative comments as spam, get that user blacklisted, and everyone's profile would make it seem like the user is God's-Gift-From-Heaven. It wouldn't really give you much insight on the person at all. Just look at how they post, check their post history. That says plenty.

I'm not going to lie, I don't use groups all that much. I use them, just not on a regular basis. I'm not one of those people who enjoys hanging out with the same 20 people over and over in a little forum. Blog? I don't think so either. Still, I'm all for a short bio.

If someone want's to backlist everyone who gives them a bad comment (most users wouldn't even bother commenting if they didn't find the profile worthwhile), then that is their decision. But I am targeting the majority of members who would use it correctly. Assuming everyone would just blacklist everyone is a dumb idea, and premature. While I also don't use groups that much, let alone Myspace or Facebook, I am not targeting people like me, but a broader audience (AKA the entire communities needs, not just those in the septagon, or the halo 3 forum, but everyone).

Honestly? You're telling me you'd let a comment like "u suck" sit in your profile? :) I wouldn't. And yes, you would get them. Lots. People feel as if there's no consequence to a silly comment like that. People would receive comments like that all the time. Just look at comments Digg, Reddit, Youtube or any website with an article. Half the comments after it are pure crap.

The problem is on websites like MySpace and Facebook, is that everyone posting in your profile is your friend. They rarely say obscene things and harsh comments. To you, anyway. And I don't think B.net really needs a friends list, where only friends can comment. If I want that hassle, I'll just use MySpace more.

Besides, I view everyone here as the same community. It isn't really broken up as many would like to think. Some just prefer other forums, they're still just Halo fans in the end.

"Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind." - Albert Einstien

If I got a comment that had relevance to my profile, and was constructively negative, I would leave it in my profile. Now, "you suck" is unbased and random, it makes no sense since it offer no information to me or the readers of my profile. All the comments I have gotten on youtube (what little I have) are generally constructive or positive (further supporting my argument that if someone isn't satisfied they will leave before commenting). Any others I have received (four or five of them) were spam adverts that I deleted. If your so afraid of bad comments, then maybe we can allow comments to be toggle-able by the user, so they can decide if they want people to post to their page or not.

But your comeback will most likely be, "if someone is an idiot, then they will just stop allowing people to comment to their profile". Again, thats their decision, it doesn't change how they act or their reputation, just the fact you can't see the ones who were yelling at him for it on one page. Your complaints are extremely minor, IMO. And like I said, this wont become Myspace, its too small and closed of a community for something like that to happen. If anything, most people wont even use these features, and only a select few (like admins, moderators, staff and bungie vets) would use them to their full extent.

Strange evolution how people have come to believe
That we are it's greatest achievement
We're barely, we're just a collection of cells
Overrating themselves

I disagree with this idea and would actively lobby against its implementation.

Why? I hate people who just say no as if they didn't need to explain it. I want an explanation, so at least put the effort in and post it the first time you reply.

I don't see the need for it.

What do we add next? Friends lists and personal photo albums?

You can say the same about groups, or signatures, or even the right to post replies to other's threads, etc. This argument is very vague and weak, please give me a good reason other than you can't see a need for it.

Trying something once will increace your chances of success, because you tried it. Try someting twice, and your chances increase yet again - seeing as you've done it. Try something a few thousand times, and your chances of success is exponentially increased; this increase would likely provide success every time

UL7IM4, groups are needed, and always have been. They are a core part of the community, and always have been. To discuss what shouldn't be discussed. To have a private section, to chat with friends, to get LAN parties together, to bring like people together, to improve the community, as well as various other things. The groups have, for the most part, always been like that. To improve discussion and to allow friends to hand out with friends, without having to disrupt conversation. That is why groups were put it. Personally, I believe your logic is flawed when you say this:

And those of you saying there is no use for this probably would have said the same about groups if someone were to propose the idea today. "There is no real point to it, we do have the forums, all it would be is an burden on the moderators."

People would still feel the same they do today, and if you want to ask an explanation as to what that is, read the paragraph above.

The Profile Additions that you have stated offer no true value to the site. If you want to talk to a friend, do it VIA private message or groups. If you want a bio, put one in your sig. If you want to block somebody from sending you messages, block them. All of the options that you have stated can be used using an current method that is already in place.

Now, I'm pretty sure you and Promie are thinking the same thing, that the site is becoming more of a social site. Well, I must agree with Sexbox. This is a video game forum, not a myspace or facebook. If you want to socialize with bios and comments, again, use a current method. I am completely against this, only for the reason that there are already methods set in place. If however, we do get these suggestions 'granted', fine, good for the people that will use it. I for one, will not use it, any of it. But that does not deny the fact that I am completely against it.
