Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

There's nothing wrong with what's going on here.

Sure he's using the name Bungie Notice as a cheap way to draw attention, but he's not violating any rules. There are no personnel being impersonated, he's not causing problems, and he's not advertising in a place where it is forbidden.

What's the deal?

Halo3Planet, the place for all things Halo 3..

Need help finding skulls, make sure to go here.

It's sad he needs to confuse people to get them to join his group. He used the "Bungie Community Online Support Team" as a way to make people think it's actual B.net employees or something running it. I'd just delete the message and block him.

"Bungie Community" is not Bungie Studios or Bungie.net, and the latter has no "employees." Everything CrypticGuardian did, if that even is who created that account, is cheap, but allowed.

I know that. But I'm fairly sure he did it on purpose, to confuse people into thinking he was part of the online team. That's why I said to just block him from sending you anymore messages.

We are all apart of the "Bungie Community Online Support Team". You, me, VII Toast, Just Another Fan, MasterChef2345233523, and [Insert Name Here] are all apart of the "Bungie Community", we are, hopefully, "Online", we (should) "Support" each other, and we make up a community/"Team". I see no trickery there.

When most people read support team, me included, I think it is the people who are in charge of keeping the site running, because that is usually how it's used. So, even though what he signed is true, because he is the support team of his group, the Bungie Community, when used together, it is rather confusing to someone not quite familiar to this website.

I did block him... after I flamed him a bit.

1. That makes you appear childish
2. Do you honestly think s/he will check that account, or care if they do?

Based on your past posting behavior, no, I do not. In retrospect, I can't fathom why I even bothered bringing it to your attention.

I did not create that account. However, I did send a message very similar to the one quoted above, directed to a member on Bnet (Using CrypticGuardian). This message displayed in the first post above is not verbatum and the reason I sent it originally was not for advertising purposes. It was simply to explain the intention of the group. I don't see why they would create an account, edit my message, and spam it out to others.

Good to know. I was worried that such assumptions would've gotten someone in some sort of trouble.

Based on my past posting behavior? Please can you stop posting like you have authority pr something because you don't. I'm sorry I don't care what a random person on a video game forum thinks about me over some private message I sent to them.

I was giving you my opinion/asnwer when you asked if I "honestly [thought you] care?".

Been playing Halo since 2001. I know my Halo.

I too got this PM, and was fooled by the name... Now I'm most likely going to leave the group as soon as I'm accepted.

It didn't seem like Cryptic to make an account like that and do something like that...
But if it bothers him enough, perhaps sending Achronos a message about it could help clear things up...
Oh, and I joined the group. (Accept the thang! Geez!)

I don't understand why you had to create this thread to "report" this message, when you could have simply PMed a mod or Achronos about it.

I just see this as an attempt to downgrade a fellow community member. I know this wasn't why you made this thread, but I had to say it.

It is a warning to other members that if they receive a similar message they will know that it isn't from Bungie itself but from some random posing as someone "official". PMing a higher-up wouldn't do anything, they'd just tell you to ignore the bastard and move on. But no one would hear about it, and this way people are hearing about it.
