I haven't made a topic for a long time so I thought now would be appropriate.

Dan Brown is an author who has written some of the most intelligent and exciting books I have ever read. If you are looking for some good reading, I strongly suggest either, The Da Vinci Code, or Angels and Demons. Angels and Demons is a prequel to The Da Vinci Code. I personally think that Angels and Demons is more exciting, but Da Vinci Code has some really good information on art and inventions and such.

They are well thought out and well written fiction books. But what makes them great is the fact that most of the things in the books are real. The characters and events that take place are the only fiction in the book.

I don't know if you actually care about what I think of the books, or about books in general, but if you are looking for a good book, I strongly recommend these and anything else by Dan Brown.

I've read all of Dan Brown's books and I love them all as well. I currently have five copies of The Da Vinci Code (my friends borrow them like crazy) plus one signed copy. Woohoo.

If any of you have a local library or the money, a new version of The Da Vinci Code just came out. It includes pictures next to the text of all locations and artifacts they visit. Very interesting. I also think it's very noteworthy to mention that both versions of the book are in the top ten bestseller list. And that's after over two years of being out. Impressive.

And a side not. They're making a film of it. It's being directed by Ron Howard (director of Apollo 13 and A Beautiful Mind) and is starring Tom Hanks as cryptologist Robert Langdon. It is scheduled to be released sometime in March of 2006.

Can't wait for the third book in the series. It supposedly takes place in America. Interesting...

And check out http://www.DanBrown.com in your spare time. It has some interesting info and a little game about the book.

Tom Hanks? Not what I expected, but not a bad choice either. I think the most interesting points that were made, were about the last supper and the hidden meanings in Da Vinci's paintings.

Yeah, Tom Hanks wasn't exactly what I expected too, but I'm sure he'll do a fine job. And might I say, that's a pretty brave role to play for such a popular actor being that so much controversy will likely surround the film.

And yeah, I have a reproduction of "The Last Supper" hanging on one of my walls. People ask me about it so I explain the whole thing to them (or at least the ones I'm sure I won't offend) and they usually end up wanting to borrow one of my copies of the book.

It is indeed a ground-breaking book. Can't wait for the next one.

Hey, if Mel Gibson can do it, Tom Hanks can too. My whole family had this huge discussion on the book. I don't know how Dan Brown figured all of this stuff out. I assume quite a few scholars already knew about it but still...it is quite an achievement.

If you go to his web-page you'll find a huge long list of sources that he pulled from. He also researched for seven ( Bungie coincidence? Hmm...) years before he sat down and wrote it. If you go to your local bookstore (like Barnes & Nobles) they usually have an entire shelf dedicated to The Da Vinci Code and they usually have the books Dan Brown researched right next to it. Some are very interesting. I suggest looking into it.

And about Angels & Demons, I loved that one too. I can see a movie series as big as Indiana Jones if they decide to do the first and upcoming third book as well.

None of you guys actually believe the events in the story, do you? It's all fiction. None of these things actually happened, he just skewed the truth about Christ, saying it's true.

No kidding. They have a book that talks about the Da Vinci Code and explains the whole thing. I have that book and it is interesting. It is called Cracking the Da Vinci Code just in case you want to read it.

The story itself is fiction, but the things he said about the paintings are true. Look at the paintings mentioned, described, and analyzed in the book and you will see that it is all true. I agree that the lineage of Christ may not be true, but everything else is fact...we might want to move away from that religious subject though.

Although we must not believe everything the books says is true automatically we must also not disbelieve everything in the book automatically. I think one must do extensive research before making any statements to the validity of the novel. Reading it thoroughly (I've gone through it four times) is of course essentual as well. It is indeed a complex and difficult topic. One which must be handled with care. All in all, I think one must remain open yet cautious.

And by the way, I checked out Cracking the Da Vinci Code a few months ago and got a chance to read it. Definately interesting, although a bit biased.

And here's a game based off the book. The first one is the original and then they made another game a few months later which is the second link. They're pretty fun actually, I suggest giving them a try.

That's kind of the idea of fiction.

actually, the stuff about jesus is a very valid theory (sorry if thats too religious). but you must remember that hes an author, and so they sometimes leave things out or add things to the facts in order to make it more exciting. just cuz its in the book doesnt mean its true, although many things are. if you really wanna make sure check it online from a few different sources. i personally love digital fortress + the title is so cool....good book. he puts big plot twists in, but after a few of his books they become somewhat predictable. anyway, hes a good author but id definitely recomend checkin out michael crichton as well (jurassic park, timeline). they made movies off of some of them but like always the books are better. the great train robbery and rising sun by him rock, check them out!

I believe his intentions with that remark were to remind people that the book should not be taken as a fact and be taken for what it is. Fiction.

But Dan Brown is a bit like Tom Clancy (but not in style or subject matter). He writes fictional books that pertain to real world things that actually exist (some that aren't well-known). Although the story is fiction, the facts that are intertwined are worth noting, whether you believe it or not.

And like I said before, I think it is wrong to assume right off that the book is completely wrong. I also think it is wrong to assume right off that the book is completely right. When in doubt, research it yourself and make up your own mind. But only after personal research.
