You think it got what it takes to be..?.

God forbid you send me one of those I was checking for cool gamers and saw you messages too, I will scream to the top of my lungs and smash this damn screen/BlackBerry to pieces! You've been warned -_-

I would like to take a roll call of thoughts on the subject of threads. The impression is this, "What are some attributes of an useful thread"?

In creating threads, the most important thing is that it offers a point of discussion. If a thread doesn't have a point of discussion then it will die or turn into a flame thread almost 90% of the time.

Thanks for the responses and support, I plan on making a weekly survey of this (since I can use the responses).

In a nutshell, what I look for in a thread is that it has a defined topic that people can relate to and discuss. As far as presentation, I like it to be fairly easy to read, although I'm not really a stickler about small nuances in grammar or whatever.

For threads that are meant to make a case, I like to see reasoning behind it. For instance, if there's a thread that's meant to argue about how someone thinks that the melee system in Halo 3 is unforgivingly unfair -- which I'm using as an example because it comes up a lot -- then I'd like to see some reasoning to back up that person's opinion, rather than simply "Fix the melee system or I'll break your legs," or something that gives no reasons to support the OP's opinions.

Humor, as well -- having something that's nothing but monotonous, somber and dull really isn't all that much fun.

its like a large force of win going through fusion, thus creating a chain reaction of a huge asplosion of win destroying any fail within its awesomeness.

It is now :P

All jokes aside, good discussion makes a thread, or telling the community something they don't already know and are very interested in.

survey =no poll? Well that's one way to make a good thread. If you have to ask different questions all in one thread but they're on the same subject, you could add a poll. It's there to help.

IMO a good thread is a thread which draws a broad variety of people. Which draws the community closer together. No wait, that's an impossible thread.

No, there are too many thoughts to fit in a poll. Plus, some people know how to vote more than once in a poll.

I would like to take a roll call of thoughts on the subject of threads. The impression is this, "What are some attributes of an useful thread"?

1. Thread must be related to the forum topic and appeal to more than one user.
2. No one liner first posts, but then again no wall of texts.
3. Correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation would be appropriate.
4. It should have a discussion purpose, rather than just to whine or flame.
5. Organize the paragraphs and use the text markups to your advantage.
6. It helps if the topic is creative, funny, unique, and original.
7. Make sure that the thread has not been posted before. (No repeat topics)
8. The title should be catchy, but not to the extent of using all CAPS/symbols to draw attention.
9. Remember to keep sarcasm and moms out of the first post. (Save it for later)
10. Post the thread at a time you know some good members are online so you're guaranteed a reply.

Though important nonetheless. ;)

But yes, originality and humour are-what I think-the most important elements of a nice thread.

Something that people will want to read and discuss. Or it can be a problem that someone needs help with, a question that needs answering, etc. Some of the better one's I have seen are topics that are easy to debate over, but it seems like eventually no matter how civil everyone is acting someone turns into a flame war, or goes off topic, and gets it locked. Its too bad that happens when there is a lot of good discussion going on and the lock suddenly has to bring it to a halt.

You say tomato; I say potato.

A good thread has a relevant issue that can be manipulated by the posts to render an approach to the situation that the members would not have figured out otherwise.

"Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind." - Albert Einstien

A good thread is entirely determined by how lucky you are it will get noticed. I have posted several "good" threads that have been washed away by the masses merely because they weren't interesting or funny and other more spammy posts made more noise than mine.
