Well, before I get into what makes a good thread lets look at what kind of threads there are and what makes them bad as well as good.
Let's start of with what I would like to call: Poop Threads.
Poop Threads
What is a Poop Thread?
Generally they are threads that don't relate to anything that is based on the main topic of the forum that it's posted in. In other words it's just pain spam and trolling. There are two things that could happen, it can be violently attacked and flamed or a moderator can do what he thinks should happen based on the content of the post. Poop threads are never good.
But golly gee Mr. Coffey, what do I do if I see one of them?
The answer is simple little Billy, you ignore it or on most forums there is a feature where you can report the post. But whatever you do, do not reply in the thread no matter how tempting it may be to say something mean to them. Thats called "feeding the trolls". Remember Billy, trolls are mean, ugly and anonymous. Feeding them with replies will fill them up with satisfaction. And besides, I know you kids aren't smart enough to fall into a trap like that. =)
Summary of Poop Threads
Off topic threads. Report it as spam, don't reply in it no matter how tempting it is, and wait for a moderator to take care of it.
Candle Threads
Yo gangsta, What be a Candle Thread?
Simple Natasha, It's a thread that's in it's rightful place but lacks content; whether it's an argument or just a link to a video. These threads are basically unpopular and usually go to the bottom or next page and end up with a bump for people to see it.
How to handle a Candle Thread
Handling a Candle Thread and making it into a beautiful butterfly is very easy. It just takes thought and a little more time. Make an attractive title that gives a basic principle to what you're trying to do. An "attractive" title does not mean symbols other than the English alphabet. Don't bump your thread. People will report you and you could be banned based on a moderator's decision. Take some time to plan out your post and more people will read and reply so you don't have to bump it. It also wouldn't hurt to use a spell checker to make sure people understand what you're saying. There's another important factor as well. Can you guess? Originality. One other reason people aren't responding to your thread is because it's been seen a million times and is old news. It's all about attraction baby.
Summary of Candle Threads
Empty threads with little or no content. Take time and do it over again. Don't bump!
Butterfly Threads
Are these threads that make everyone happy inside?
Not quite Evilcam, they can make people happy but that's not all they're about. Butterfly Threads are threads that are well thought out, use correct grammar, and provide a good statement. They are the kind of threads that make you want to hug someone but yet eat their head. Just like butterfly's these threads won't last forever and will hardly be remembered.
Bloody good job Coffey. Now tell is how to handle them!
I was just at that part Harry. When you post a Butterfly Thread it's very possible that you will get mixed results. These results can be from a well written response, a one liner telling you good job, or someone telling you that you suck and you are wrong without providing evidence to back that up. There is also the guy who will tell you your misdeed and provide evidence that you're wrong. If you keep Making threads like this then you're on you way to success and gathering respectful friends.
Summary
Threads that are well written. Often leads to mixed results.
Mythic Threads
What is a Mythic Thread?
Something that is flawless. It is rarely done and is certainly remembered. It has the potential to go into 100 pages. These threads are usually very attractive and might have some sort of chain process going in them.[/end of guide]
Spark Threads
Added by: K1RK H4MM3T [January 07,2008, 8:29 PM CST]
These threads are similar to poop threads in that they are pretty much useless. I guess you could say that they are a breed of poop threads. But unlike poop threads, they always contain things that cause people to flame, like racism, politics, religion, etc. Sometimes it's a member posting their opinion as truth, which is just asking for flamers. People who like to flame and argue can't resist the sparks and have to flame
How to handle them
Same as a poop thread. Report them and move on. DO NOT MAKE A POST IN A SPARK THREAD! This just encourages the flamers, and you could be included in the likely bannings for adding to the spam and flames.

I'm way too tired to type more. I hope you enjoyed this guide. PM me with feedback or any mistakes that you think should be added. I guess I have too much time on my hands. Maybe I'll write one for members if enough people like this.
