Can anyone tell me where I can get a copy of the Halo Editing Kit? Thanks.

Needless to say, but what the hell! You can download it from my site dude... on the 'Other Downloads' page...

Enjoy.

Just out of interest, what kind of skill level does it require to make Halo maps? I used to make kick-ass maps for Half-Life and CS, I found it very easy using the Worldcraft/Hammer level builder to create stunningly detailed and playable maps. Something about the HEK put me off though, I fear the simplicity of map making has been somewhat lost. I'll go download it in advance, hopefully someone can prove to me I have good reason to actually use the thing. I have some ideas for Halo maps...

I can't help you there dude... I only collect them and make them available to all.

I did have a look once though, and thought "hmmm, I think I'll go and have a game of Halo now..." Way too much for my feeble mind to grasp!

Skippy: Hmm...well, any mapmaking for those games might be a little different. HEK is pretty hard if you're first getting into it.

You need to be fluent with 3ds max, specifically the newer versions, fluent in command line, etc. You also need to be able to create detailed bitmap textures and the like for trails and paths, and also need to know about working with bitmaps that have multiple layers.

Basically, the HEK is exactly what Bungie used to make Halo. It's pretty hardcore map editing. If you go to the gearbox forums you can get a pretty detailed tutorial, though. That's what I used :)
