What do you think about having a New icon to denote something "news" related in the forums?

Something that would stick out among the stickies?

EX: A newly stickied topic will have a new(and unique) Icon for the first 24-48 hours of being stickied. Then, it reverts to a normal sticky Icon after this time.

That way, when something like (XBL is having issues) or (HEY! THIS IS WHY YOUR GT IS UNLINKED!) gets stickied, it has further "eye catching" properties, so as to cut down upon the extra topics about the same thing.

Eh?

Halo3Planet, the place for all things Halo 3..

Need help finding skulls, make sure to go here.

This wouldn't change whether or not people would read it. The ones who don't read the stickies not wouldn't be more inclined to if there were a new symbol. I guess it wouldn't hurt to try.

Well, I have to admit, I missed it when the Issue about the GT got stickied myself, until I noticed a few getting locked. But, by having something stand out more, it alerts you to the fact that something is new, or different about the forum that before.

Meh...good idea, but I don't think that we really need them. In my experience, new stickies typically generate replies fairly quickly, which moves it farther up the listing and more people will subsequently take notice.

I see your point, and it is a good one: new stickies do tend to blend in a bit with the surrounding text and icons, which makes it a tad hard to see when one crops up. However, I think that enough people do see them when they crop up and reply to them -- they may not be as conspicuous as they probably should be, but I think that they do function the way they are. (The clever implementation of a few dozen asterisks here and there doesn't hurt, either, as far as emphasis goes.)

I remember when I used this space to put cool looking links to my chapters back in the day. I don't even know why I'm using it now. Why are you even reading this? You must be interested in me. Still reading?

It isn't much of a big deal, maybe a simple newsletter icon or something along those lines. Yes, it would stick out , but, it might, clue word might make the forum look a bit jumbled or mixed up.
