I have the same problem. I think that maybe it's on the PC version (I only have the XBox version).

How early in the level does it say it's available? At the earliest I can get a Banshee at the point where I first get a Scorpion.

I think that maybe it's on the PC version (I only have the XBox version).
I doubt that because both campaigns are identical.

The first banshee in AotCR is easy to find, hard to get! It is located just after you happen upon the Scorpion and Johnson and his handy sniper rifle. The banshee lift off is triggered by your passing a certain point in the upcoming fights. Once it lifts off, you cannot steal it. This is how I have gotten it in the past.

Firstly, you need to take care of the covies that Johnson and the marines are battling around the Scorpion. Either on foot or in the tank, finish off next the covies in the "natural tunnel (without going all the way through the tunnel) then backtrack and take care of the covies to the left of the tunnel entry. When this second batch is finished off, if you look up the left wall of the canyon you will see a platform. This platform is where the banshee is. You cannot see the banshee from this spot, but this is where you need to knock it off from a bit later.

Once you have spotted the platform, go back to the crashed Pelican near where the scorpion is/was and make your weapon selection the rocket launcher and the sniper rifle. Move back to the tunnel and go through 3/4 of the way until you can see the Jackals moving around to the left of where the Wraith will be on the frozen pond. Take them out with the sniper rifle. Next take out any Grunts in turrets and any stray Elites. Once they are gone, along with any Ghosts, you need to take out the Wraith. Personally, I like to do this with a Plasma Pistol I have taken off a dead Grunt, but whatever flips your skirt up. When the Wraith is gone, you need to park the Scorpion on top of the little hill that overlooks the frozen pond the Wraith was on. If you face "forward", the natural tunnel will be at your back, the forerunner made tunnel will be on your right, and the platform with the banshee on it will be to your left. Get out of the tank, make your weapon combo the sniper rifle and rocket launcher if you switched to a PP like I did, stand on the turret of the tank and sniper scope in on the platform. If you parked the tank correctly you should be able to see (on max zoom) the front end of the Banshee poking up as it sits on that platform. Get your target reticle onto the point that is midway between the top of the visible part of the Banshee and the edge of the platform that is blocking your view of the rest of it. If you aim too high, the round passes over the Banshee and won't knock it off. If you aim too low the round will detonate on the edge of the platform. It can take several tries, sometimes you knock the banshee out of view without knocking it off the platform. If this happens, kill yourself to go back a checkpoint and try it again. Do not use the tank main gun because it is not very accurate for pinpointing where you need to hit.

The lift off trigger point is between the frozen pond and the forerunner tunnel with the Hunters in it. Be careful how far beyond the pond you go.

Good Luck and Good Hunting!

You just have to stand directly under the platform and fire a rocket or two beneath it. The splash damage from the rocket will penetrate through the floor and flip the vehicle off. One shot near the middle of the platform will flip the Banshee towards the edge and another shot aimed a tad further to the edge will send it all the way off. If you're lucky one rocket is all you need.

I have tried the rocket to the platform bottom method many times and have yet to be able to knock that darn banshee off the platform. The only way I have ever gotten it down is the way I described. Maybe I am just a crappy shot from underneath.

I am talking about one in the room where you are first dropped off. The guide book has the vehicle symbol on the map, and even says, "This is a great place to practice flying the banshee," but it isn't there.

That's obviously a mistake. The vehicle would serve no purpose in that section where the only way to proceed onward is through a narrow door.

I do believe that is a mistake as well. When you are first dropped off by Foehammer there are the Elites and Grunts, but no Banshee. The first one is not until after you get outside and take out the 2 Wraiths (one underneath the bridge and one after the Scorpion. There are no Banshees that you can grab before that. There is another Banshee after the first that you can grab. When you get near the end of the level, and you have to go across the natural bridge just outside of the control room there are 2 banshees on the bridge, you can get one or both if you play it right.

You have to have your sniper rifle at the ready before you open the door to go out. Watch your motion tracker to let the near Elite start walking away from you, then go close enough to open the door. Have your zoom at the low power to find the Elites patrolling by the Banshees and take them out first. Then take out the other Covies defending the exit you go out of, once you do this you can have both Banshees because you will have killed the Elite pilots before they can take off. Typically you will take a few hits to your health meter, but it is worth it.

Before I get that checkpoint at the doors leading to that bridge I like to backtrack a room or two back and pick up the active camo in that long hallway. Then I rush back to the doors and bust out with a checkpoint and active camo. I flip the Banshee in the back with a grenade or knock it off with a rocket and then steal the first Banshee before they can even react.

I try to get this one every time I play. It is the first banshee in the level!

I have flown a banshee into the first room where Foehammer drops you off, and there was no other banshee in there. The first one in the level though... isn't that at the bridge right after the very first room, before the elevator that takes you down to the valley floor which takes you to the scorpion...?

"It's not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me."

You can get it right after the tank arrives (by the crashed Pelican).

I am most curious as to how you got a banshee to the first room where foehammer drops you off. Is there an aerial path back to the room that I am not aware of? Is it possible to work the banshee back through the level, i have gotten a ghost part of the way back/forward in this level and others (into the interior parts of the levels, fun stuff) but I did not think you could get a CE banshee (with its non-meleeable wings) that far back. Please shed some light on this!

It is not possible to get a banshee there without modding, or perhaps action replay.

It's possible. You have to fly it through the hallways, and it's a pain to do because if it kicks you out, chances are you'll get splattered... and there's no checkpoints going through the hallways, so you have to fly all the way back and try again.

So at the bottom of that shaft, there's an invisible barrier that you can't fly through. Something I'd like to do with that is, is to fly a banshee in, jump out of it in midair, fall through the barrier, grab the banshee and get back in it while falling, and fly to the bottom of that deep sink hole.

I just made a video showing how it's done here.

Dude that's cool to know. I like the video of the scene involving MC dying in the cinematic... I hit the floor laughing.
