My 360 is broken and its taking so long to have it fixed im thinking about picking up halo 1 or 2 for my pc. I just had a couple quick questions for you guys because ive never played any non-console halo.
1) Which multiplayer 1 or 2 would you guys say is better for a console gamer?
2) Are there a decent amount of pc gamers or are multiplayer wait times long to find a game?
3) Do the glitches from console halo 2 exist in the pc version (i.e. Double shot) <------ I hate them
4) How expensive is the pc multiplayer for halo 2?

Thanks guys sorry for all the questions in one post but i dont want to waste money on something im not going to like.

1) Having never played halo2 vista, I can't speak for that, but I played halo 1 on xbox from release until a few months after halo 2, and I was fine switching to, and now prefer Halo 1 PC. Keep in mind that you will have to learn to lead as the lag on halo 1 PC is tremendous enough that there is no way to explain. You simply have to jump right in. It almost counterbalances the uber pistoling from the xbox version.

2) There are plenty of Halo 1 PC servers/players. You will be able to play against other people any time you want usually on every map and gametype, though finding a combination you like takes time. Can't say the same for halo 2 vista unfortunately.

3) The double melee from Halo 1 exists in PC, though because of the huge netcode issues, is not that big a problem, and generally results in you nading yourself. There are a few other glitches, such as getting on top of levels, but no extremely easy/useful glitches like superbounces here.

4)Average game price, I'd say $50-$60.

since petosh thought you meant Halo one in glitches, YES Halo 2 has all of the xbox glitches. It also gives autoaim to anyone who uses a controller, and people who use mice and have a piece of tape.
There are MORE halo 1 PC servers and players than Halo 2. And Halo 1 isn't all rockets and swords.
Halo 1 does have a terrible netcode, which takes getting used to.
Obviously you've never played a PC game before: there is no matchmaking. You find a server and then join it if it has the gametype that you want.
All in all, I'd suggest Halo 1 with no qualms if it wasn't for the netcode. But you don't have to buy a gold XBL account to play it as much as you want so it's a trade off. And you don't need Vista either.
I also suggest you download xfire at http://www.xfire.com It's the "xbox live" of PC gaming.
And I'm not sure if I'm allowed to do this, but if you do become interested in joining a community/clan you can PM me... I'm in a pretty good one and you give off teh vibe you're not a jerk
And to answer Brute shot, No the SP is not any different in Halo 1. Multiplayer has a couple new weapons though which are okay, while being slightly overpowered. And the Rocket warthog and Banshee in MP. Halo 2 is exactly the same in every way.

1. Halo 1 has more people playing than Halo 2 PC.
2. Halo 1: You will always find a good game guranteed. There are lots of people playing at any given time. Halo 2:Not very many people, but you will find a decent match.
3. The glitched for Halo 2 Xbox still exist in Halo 2 for Windows Vista. That includes BXR, BXB and the other ones in Halo 2 Xbox along with more minor ones.
4. Free or $50

Download the 134MB trial version of Halo and see if it works on your PC before you buy the full game.

I downloaded the trial to Halo 1 and loved it. The game is so cheap now compared to buying an xbox 360 to play halo 3. It's great fun having battles over internet or lan. I even blog my score Halo Battles Blog.

Play for a week or 2, and then see if you still want to use a 360 controller.
Yes you can use it, but it's very annoying and does not work as well as it does on a 360 and certainly doesn't equal a mouse.

Be warned though brute shot... Use a controller at your own liability. It WILL cripple you in any sort of competitive play (competitive meaning clanmatches, nothing else ; )

Also to OP... make sure you have the hardware etc. to run everything, like other suggested the trial is your best bet.

ive been playing the trial with a controller and the only problem ive had is if i stand still sometimes my guy walks backward? not very god though because i'm having to get used to leading again(halo 1 on xbc)

Halo 1: Free Multiplayer, $15 game, Great campaign, Halo Custom Edition, Halo Editing Kit, Sidewinder, and 1000-so-players online average.
Halo 2: Monthly pay, $30-or so game, pretty good campaign, Sucky map editor, 2 New maps, and 500-or-so players online average,

I'd say Halo 1.

  • 01.13.2008 6:54 PM PDT

Long live the Last Refuge!

halo 2 has never had 500 people online and it isn't a monthly pay. It can by a monthly pay, a annaul pay, or quaterly. Halo 2 costs $50 and halo 1 costs $20
