I think I'm the only person in the world who really didn't like the game. Besides the visuals, I found that the game was rather boring and annoying at points, to say the least. At first, I was amazed at the physics and the detail of everything, but once I got playing, the game wasn't fun at all. The driving levels weren't very amusing (I really disliked them, and they lasted forever) and the friendly AI was annoying near the end when you take control of a squad. Another gripe I had was with the story. There are so many unanswered questions. Characters reference battles or events that you didn't know existed. The end of the game was very odd and displeasing. It wasn't even a cliffhanger really.....it was just.....there. Maybe I'm the only one. Thanks for listening,

Yeah, actually, I agree with you. It wasn't all that impressive.

Have you played the original? Because that would help you understand the story somewhat.

However, the confusion is part of the game. It's how Gordon's feeling. The end of the game was much like the end of the first game.

The Half-Life 2 story basically is an enigma wrapped in a conundrum, coated with a whole lot of WTF?!

I understand what you're saying to a point. I have played and beat the first game, but I have to disagree with you. A lot of my questions about the story was directed at the Combine. I don't believe that their purpose/existence/orgin was well explained.

The end of the game was too much like the first game. There was no sense of completion. Not to sound like a Halo 2 fanboy, but I thought that the end of Halo 2 was done a million times better.

I do appreciate that they did the entire game in first person mode to set the feeling that you're Gordon, but the lack of cut-scenes really hurt. I think cut-scenes add a lot of depth to a story.

Not to say that there were memorable parts (the modified Grav-gun was fun to use the first time), but I think that the game was overrated. Thanks for listening,

Well, whether or not the first game helps, and yes I have played it and most of its expansions, the story was... lacking, in a major way.
And gameplay was always pretty repetitive, I thought. "Oh, pick this stuff up and put it here to close the circuit, or raise the ramp, or flip the switch." Over and over and over. Got too tedious.

If anyone had any counter-arguments, I'd like to hear them. It's possible I missed a large aspect of the game.

While I have purchased the Platinum Edition of the original, which comes with most of the add-ons (Opposing Force, Blue Shift, etc...) and while I do enjoy the action segements, I must agree with Sveny and say that I really don't see much by way of story. Unless you count mysterious black suited men unlocking doors for you and suddenly disappearing...;p.

Its better than Doom 3... thats all I can really say. Well, that and the strider mission was fun for me.
