Well PM Frankie and tell him.

  • 06.11.2004 6:56 PM PDT

My thumbsticks will be your Doom.... sorry 'bout that.

Yo, will this proximity voice thingy be in Surround Sound too? Or is it they can't deliver the "full stereo" sound with just the headset? Whatever it is it sounds cool already (hehe). Oh yeah, and what is UI? sounds familiar but i just keep coming up with "Under the Influence".

Great update, hang in there Frankie. I too dominate in Halo, particularly over my roomate, and every once in a while he manges to pull off a victory or two (try playin shorter matches, it might be easier to sustain a lead just to 10 or 15).

Dude, proximity sound is going to be great!
"Hey biatch! You're tagged! MWAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAA!"
Of course, you might not get to the end of the evil laugh, but still, it's gonna be awesome.
I hope the person still hears you after they're dead, so they hear you laugh at them while you hump their dead body. "HAHAAAA I'm humping you!!!"

My thought on this proximity voice issue is when you are far away from somone in the game you can hear a faint voice. As the player moves closer to you, you begin to hear him alittle bit louder. Think proximity mines. The farther away you are from it the less chances of you triggering the mine. As you get closer to the mine you start to increase the chances of it exploding. Thats the best example i can think of.

By the way, great update frankie. I cant wait to experience this piece of art and storytelling. And to continue this awesome story. The books really help fill in the pieces. Keep up the good work bungie :)

How many lines of dialog were in the first halo?

I Think that Frankie said that there were about 6,000 lines of combat dialog in Halo 1! Imagine what it'll be like with 15,000 lines in Halo 2!

How would proximity voice work? SPARTANs use secure COM channels.

Does that mean if I have the flag and I am evading enemies it would be best for me NOT to call for help? they should make it like SC pandora tommorow where you pressed a button to taunt enemies but who knows nice updade

Maybe the helmet isn't soundproof.

It's airtight. Sound needs air. No air comes out besides when he exhales but that probably goes through some kind of a filter.

I absolutely love combat dialogue! Whenever I get a checkpoint and a Marine is saying something cool sometimes I catch myself constantly "returning to last checkpoint" so I can run through some of the lines. But I find a lot of them are just different inflections and tones of voice for the same lines. But this time it looks like there's gonna be something for every occasion and that's way way cool.

MJOLNIR has that biolayer of gel. That would stop the metal from vibrating. Even if it could vibrate, you couldn't tell what is being said. Plus, you would have to be pretty close to sense the MJOLNIR armor vibrating.

It better not be rated T!!! That means They would've Toned it down, and I think iT is fine The way iT is.

Whatever Bungie decides to do i'll stick by them.So if the game is rated M or T iit still will be the greatest game.

One of the best updates in a while, as in last week. This proximity thing sounds awesome. And I think that we all know that Halo 2 will be rated M, no worries. GO Bungie!!! and Frankie, you will win sometime.

I think the proximity voice thing works like the doppler effect. You know when a car is far away it sounds soft, and as it gets closer it gets louder and louder until it passes you and then gets softer again. Kinda like that...with voices. Maybe the warthogs and such will use the doppler effect, so you can tell when they get closer, that might be in halo 1 already, i gotta check, not right now but later...neways, good update cant wait Nov 9 too far away... :)

Now I get to talk dirty to my fallen enemies as I corpse-hump them.

The doppler effect has nothing to do with the intensity (loudness) of sound. It is the constantly changing frequency that you hear as a sound passes by you. Notice how a car engine is the same pitch when you are standing next to it, but as it drives by you it is changing.
