Can anyone recommend a good router? I ask because both my brother's and my Xbox connect to the same one and we get kicked from XBL with a message saying something like "You have lost connection. Would you like to start the troubleshooter?" or something like that. We get kicked around every 20-40 minutes. I'll even go as far as to write down my routers name :Linksys 802.11b Wireless Router BEFW11S4.If anyone can tell me how to stop or repair this I would greatly appreciate it. If not, then please recommend a good router able to handle both our Xbox's.

If u are going to be doing legit playing (no hacking etc) go for the linksys wireless g router (unsure of model name b/c to lazy to look) I use this one. But fyi u may have to do a firmwire upgrade and if not done properly can make ur router a 200$ paper weight. Or u can just by a cheap old WIRE router and buy enough cabe to run it.

There is a guide on linksys site to do the upgrade

I use wireless with no problems at all.

Linksys: WRT54G
Microsoft Game Adapter: MN-740

As for the origianal poster have you updated your firmware lately? That is the first place I would start.

Yeah, I'm wireless too... But I don't use Linksys, I just have some Intel wireless gateway.

Pretty soon we're upgrading though, not sure what to. But we'll be using G instead of B.

And I just use my laptop to bridge the Wired-Wireless connections... Much more convenient than having to get a seperate bridge.

If B is working for you save your money. You won't notice a speed difference as the internet speed is your bottleneck. Unless of course you are paying thousands of dollars a month and running some monster internet connection.

Yeah, I know. It works fine for internet usage - B is 11mbps, and we have cable so we only have a 1mbit pipe anyway. But we're gonna get G for intranetwork transferring... It's so annoying trying to copy through the network over B.

Yeah, it'd probably work just fine. I use B for LAN gaming on my PC all the time. But 54 can't hurt.

I forget what the name of the router is. But they are affordable, and they work great. You can find them at walmart and they are a really good deal. I believe the name starts with an L? It doesnt say Xbox xcompatible on the box...but it is!

Have you guys worked with any of the speedbooster routers? My boss got one and I set it up for him. It seems like it dropped packets like crazy. I wouldn't recommend them for online gaming.

The Linksys ones? I just read some reviews, other people say it's fine... Works okay with Live, and has extra Flash and RAM.

Maybe it was just because I was trying to use Windows configuration for the wireless card. Once I caved in and used the linksys utilities it worked better. I'm still not sure how well it would work with the Microsoft Wireless adapter though.

You said in your PMs that both you and your brother play right? Do you mean 1 at a time, both at the same time or do you share an Xbox? It may be that your DSL speed isn't that great and doesn't have enough bandwidth for 2 people. Your router is fine. I use the same one, both wireless connection and hardwire work fine.

EDIT: Did you ever find out what your DSL speed was?

Hmm, then it may be your DSL connection speed that's causing the problem. Because I've had 2 Xboxes and a PC plugged into our router using three Live accounts (2 on one Xbox and 1 on the other) and the PC was downloading e-mail and doing updates like Norton Anti-Virus and stuff. I never got lag once.

EDIT: I've done that multiple times BTW.

There's nothing wrong with a wireless connection. Works fine for me.
