More than likely it will be pretty close to the human sniper in damage and range. Instead of the bullet trails the human weapon leaves, the covenant will probably look more like a line of laser fire. That's my guess anyway. It would be really cool if it had a faster rate of fire than the human, but then you'd have to balance that out with a slower recharge rate after only a few shots. I'd imagine that they'll probably do about 10 shots per fully charged (100%) battery. Looking forward to hearing more about that one.

Honestly that would not be very good. Shooting through walls makes it seem like the Farsight from Perfect Dark and that was a really cheap weapon as was the rail gun from Red Faction 2.

Now what I do think it would be like an actual sniper rifle. Five shots, reloads similarly to a human weapon but using a plasma battery instead. Because it does this it will obviously have some serious punch to it due to the fact it uses so much energy for just five shots.

Remember the flag ship in The Fall of Reace, the one that could snipe ships? Basically I believe the Covenant sniper rifle will fire a super fine beam of blue plasma that is capable of dropping shields completely and damaging the unit behind them alot. Taking away about half if not more of the unit's health. Also the weapon can overheat like any other plasma weapon.

I know I said only five rounds, but the gun can shoot fast. After shooting three rounds off really fast I think it would start to over heat a bunch forcing the player/AI to wait for the cool down. Giving us/them a better chance of running away from it.

Also it would be used by actual snipers, not some random Grunt with a grudge. Heck it could be used by my Stalker concept or an Elite that is either stealth/visible. Oh well those are my ideas for the Covenant sniper rifle.

i sure hope that bungie will add a way to recharge the snpier then. picking up a new covie sniper after every 10 shots might get a little redundant after a while. i feel the same way about the P. rifles and pistols. hopefully we'll figure out a way to reload those things. humans aren't that stupid, are they?

There are 10 kinds of people in the world: those who know binary, and those who don't.

if they're gonna have a covie sniper(and they prolly will) then for all purposes it would have to be a lot different than the original human one. the original halo had all of eight weapons. bungie is NOT going to make a new weapon like a covie sniper that operates anything like the human one. it would be a duplicate. from halo, we can see that bungie would not idly put in a duplicate weapon, one that for all intents and purposes is the same, roughly, as another, simply because it is a waste of time and energy. so instead they'll have the covie sniper be really interesting, like it shoots a single needler shot at really high velocity or sumthing, mildy homing, leaving no trail, but considerably weaker, also possibly with a much larger clip. or maybe a giant laser beam, so that u cant miss, but u only get one shot. perhaps thats just wishful thinking. either way it'll be something different. anyway, the covenant have general weaponery which can be used in any situation, thats just how they work, while humans have all the specialized stuff that works really well for one thing but not so well for another. it is therefor easy to assume that any sort of covenant sniper would actually be somewhat well rounded, with a larger clip and automatic or semi-aauto rate of fire, and that homing ability would come in handy for closer ranges where targets dodge more erratically. that, or it could be extremely rare. eiter way, if u really want to find something along the lines of what the new weapons might be like, u'll have to look at it from one of two points- that of the developer bungie and why they would need this new weapon and how it could be different, or that of the covenant, and how they would use this new weapon, how it would affect their tactics and whether or not they would actually use your idea.

i bet it will just be a more powerful sniper, semi automatic but over heats really fast.

I think it'll be less powerful than the human sniper, because it'd be frustrating to play very good/tactical but suddenly get killed in half a second by some covy sniper.
I beleive it'll last long/will be rechargeable/ fire faster than the human sniper to make up for the lack of power, and because it'd be dumb to only be able to pick up empty/ allmost empty covenant sniper rifles.
I think this would create a cool/ balanced covy sniper, but I don't doubt bungie have got something really original to make it even cooler/ even more balanced.

Okay then I see no one actually understood by what I meant when I said it'll need a new battery every five shots.

Okay then to clarify.

Every human gun and the needler has a clip in one form or another. My idea for the Covenant sniper rifle is that it to has a clip that is a battery that you can take out and put a new one in. Instead of having to find a new sniper rifle, you can carry one and have about 30 spare rounds for it as well as the 5 in the gun. That was my reload idea.
