I really don't want this to be in bad taste, but I just heard some really odd facts. First, the damage total for the tsunami disaster is estimated at $800 million (very poor people). Donations are also estimated at about $4 BILLION. How is it that the effected victims still cannot get water? Where is all this money going? I'm a bit lost. Can someone clear this up?

Please don't let this topic prevent you from donating. I'm sure there is a plausable explaination.

The main problem is getting the food and water to them. Look at the pictures. There is no easy method of transportation in most areas as roads, bridges, etc are blocked and destroyed.

Precisely. It's not like purchasing new units in an RTS - the money you spend doesn't instantly go towards their creation. Instead, things need time to organize and get where they need to be.

It'd be hard to pull off. Some of the most rigidly watched institutions ever are charities.

I think that 4 billion dollars is way too much for anyone to grasp. You can do a lot with just a fraction of that.

The reason why, is because all the bridges and roads are destroyed. The sad part is that through all this, someone is making a great deal of money and for that reason that's why I think America sucks(not everyone just the selected few).My heart goes out to the people lost!! Politicians are criminals, thugs, and they are the true mafia.

Yeah theres more money than the people had in the first place, but think about all the helos that are going in, and all of the jet fuel for them, the people not being able to eat the fish (which was their major food suply) means that all of their food has to be brought in, water, clearing all of the boats and crap out of what used to be peoples homes and streets, and construction equipment. That costs a lot, mabey 4 billion.

Hopefully some of it will go towards improving the services in the countries affected, rather than just rebuilding them.

I think there should be a more proper way of giving out supplies than throwing them into the crowd. Lots of people miss out.

Its 'organized chaos'. Its not just bags of rice thrown into a crowd, it just looks that way sometimes. Most distrubution places let people in in small numbers, they get food ect, they go, next group comes in. - to the best of my knowledge, anyway.
