Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"
This is not an advertisement, nor is the idea underway. I simply want the input from you to see if this kind of thing would receive interest.
If you haven't noticed it, there has been an increasing amount of interest in tournaments and leagues within the Bungie.net Community. However, most, if not all, of these have been the typical bracket-style, elimination or round-robin variety. Halo 3: Conquest is quite a bit different, however. If you've ever played the game of Risk, what I am about to describe will seem quite familiar.
Instead of pre-defined sized teams taking on other teams on random maps and gametypes, these matches will be fought regularly until one team controls all of Halo 3, or, more accurately, controls each of the maps of the game. Here's how it works:
Rules
* 3-4 Nations are formed from Bungie.net members
* Each Nation is composed of a virtually limitless number of players
* Upon the start of each season, each Nation selects complete control of a proportional number of maps. (3 teams>5 maps, 4 teams>4 maps: A variation or two of a map may be introduced to allow for equal choosings. Else, team(s) may end up being handicapped.) One of the selected maps must be chosen as a team's base.
* To win the game, a single Nation must control every map in its entirety
* Challenges are made to opposing Nations. The nature of these challenges are described below...
Challenges
* Each map is worth 3 wins. Control is based on a fraction of this: total control equals a 3/0 ratio on the map. Lose a challenge, ration drops to 2/1, and so on, until all control is lost, 0/3.
* Attackers (those who challenge) choose gametype, defenders (those challenged) select starting color preference.
* All challenges are played on the default maps and variants. This includes DLC maps, but also means no MLG, sorry folks.
* All challenges must be made formally, and logged by both National leaders (described below).
* Challenges can be made at any time, but a limit on the number of these will be set.
* A single challenge is a best of three set of games. The map and gametype will remain the same between matches, but the defenders can swap starting colors before each match.
Nations
* A Nation is formed easily enough: a single member requests that they become a Nation. They must then be backed up by 5 additional members. The first 3/4 Nations to meet this will be formally recognized.
* Unless otherwise specified, the founder of the Nation is the Commanding Officer (a.k.a. National Leader).
* While it is not required, an Executive Officer is recommended to be appointed. Further chain of command is at the discretion of the C.O.
Once the number of Nations has been met, C.O.'s should create private (restricted) chapters. This will serve as the Nations headquarters. From here, all Nation info, including specifc challenges, training days, rankings, will be taken care of. It is up to the C.O. to make sure this gets done.
A master chapter will be created to serve as the central hub for all inter-[i]Nation activity. Nations are required to supply the following information to this group:
* A master roster of all members associated with the Nation. Rankings may accompany these.
* All challenges must be formally made here. This includes what two teams, what map, what gametype, and what date. Nations may discuss challenges to each other via PM, etc, but results will only count if they are submitted.
* The results must be submitted within 48 hours of the challenge's completetion. Both participating teams must submit a link of the game; teams can, and will, be penalized for not submitting a result, or for submitting a false result.
* Any complaints, requests, advertisements can be made within this group.
Additional Rules
* If one is chosen, an Overlord, a person or persons who run the entirety of the program, must have full access to a Nation's group, with few exceptions. Any Overlords will be chosen by me, upon application.
* No treaties, pacts, etc can be made between Nations.
* Any rules may be added, removed, changed, altered, etc at anytime without (much) notice.
* Any members on a Nation's roster may compete in a challenge, but any non-rostered competitors will cause a penalty toward the repsective Nation(s).
* Squads, those members participating in a particular challenge/match, will be limited to a particular size based on the map, and possibly gametype.
* Squad members can be swapped out by both teams between matches during a challenge, however it is against the rules to do this during a match.
As the game progresses, Nations will gain control of other maps, and lose control of their own maps. A nation must lose complete control of their non-base maps before their base map may be "attacked". If knocked out entirely, a team may challenge and re-aquire their base map, and from there proceed to take other maps back. As mentioned earlier, the game ends when a team has complete dominance over every single map that is apart of the game.
Advanced Rules
* As size increases, branch divisions can be formed of a single Nation, allowing multiple challenges to be faught at the same time. Both matches will be counted against the total matches for the day, week, or whatever established period of time.
* No Dual-enrollment is permitted. Anyone caught belonging to two Nations will be penalized.
* Member trading is permitted, but must be logged within the main site.
* While not required, National colors, symbols, anthems(?!), etc can be established. It is highly recommended that you have a name, less you want me to chose one for you!
* By default, the Commanding Officer must approve challenges, file reports, etc. However, a reasonable number of other members may be permitted some or all of these duties, so long as it is established who these individuals are before hand.
If there is enough interest in this idea, it will be started to be put under way. Any and all support is helpful from anyone.
I believe there's enough positive support to at least create a main group for this. You can join Halo Conquest to support this idea officially!
