I'm there but, man this is really starting to sound like communism.
Long live the MAW.

Hello,

The situation; In the not-so-distant future, I will have enough cash (give or take around $400) to upgrade my current rig.

The specs:
-Dual core CPU (E2160) running at 1.8 Ghz
-1 gig (1022 MB) of Ram
-GeForce 8500 GT 256 MB (although it says 512 MB in Dxdiag...weird)

The question: for a future upgrade, I've been thinking of upgrading my current cheap-o graphics card. Now, the Georce 8500 is SLI enabled, so I can either buy myself another cheap-o SLI graphics card, or I can scrap the 8500 and replace it with another graphics card.
So, my basic question is which would run games in general better; dual cheap graphics cards, or one decent graphics card.
Thanks,

One Decent. Say a 8800GT

I have an 8600GT, wishing the 8800 was cheaper when I bought my 8600. :{

Well I would go with the decent one. That is if I have the money. ;_;

The good card would probably be roughly the same price as two of the cheaper cards yes? Unless they're like really cheap, I'm not current on computer technology or pricing anymore.

Stupid parents let their stupid children play games that are rated M when they should be playing Big Birds Spelling Adventures

Also the AR is actually good in CQB now and no longer a glorified baseball bat.

One 8800 or 3870 = DirectX 10.

NO, a single 8800 is faster and a better choice.

Bull. The Geforce-7 series doesn't support DirectX 10.

does your mobo even support SLI? Buy another gig of ram, sell the 8500, and get an 8800GT

If your wallet can take it and you want the best performance possible as soon as possible, I suppose two of whatever is considered the best GPU at the time will do better than one. However, using a dual configuration on lower-end cards doesn't beat buying a high end GPU.
