Some people say its for the sounds from explosions and etc. And others say its for voice communication.

What will it do?

SB-117

where sound comes from you and can be quiet when someones far away and loud when nearby....it also is affected by obstacles between the conversing spartans it can be muffled and stuff...

So it has nothing to do with voice communication? And does Halo have this?

that "sound" im referring to is the VOICE. im sorry i rushed that answer but yes, its to do with voice com.

  • 06.11.2004 8:22 PM PDT

I'll be on my own side.

i thought it was like you can talk to marines who are close to you

  • 06.11.2004 8:29 PM PDT

SB-117

i think its just an effect on xbox live or when the marines are talking TO YOU.

Yes. Generally the closer you are the louder the person's voice will be. The further you are away the quieter. This isn't a new thing for Halo since if you walk away from the marines that are talking to you then you can't hear them but it is for Halo Online.

This may, I repeat "may", mean that they'll also add environmental effects like echos to your voice in real time when the situation demands. They could do it... but it depends on processor demands.

actualy im pretty sure its for mutliplayer, when you are within a certan proximity to an aponent he can hear you speak you your mic (xboxlive). becyase frakie was talking about how um bungie employing A would run up to ppl with a shotgun and yell BOOM right before shooting.

It's a sound effect or set of sound effects for your voice over live, nothing more, though it adds serious realism.

It's like using bump mapping. You don't realize how awesome it is but its there.

Well normally when you talk to a guy over live he always sounds like he's near you no matter what.

With voice proximity, if he's twenty feet away he'll sound twenty feet away. If he's fifty yards away you'll hear nothing. It's realistic.

So.... If someone has the flag, and you are at your spawn, you wont be able to hear the flag carrier screaming for a Warthog driver... Thats goona suck

i don't think this will be implemented in multiplayer, or they'll change it up a bit.. because the Spartan's all have voice communication channels in their armor. they can talk to anyone within a pretty decent radius. the voice proximity just wouldn't make sense, since in the books, the Master Chief can open up channels to the Spartans, Cortana, internal, and external..

and you see, if they did put it in, you'd be able to hear the opposing team if they were in the voice radius. you might accidently blurt out a tactic or strategy, not knowing the enemy was nearby.. and if there's proximity, i explained that there would be no voice channels, so the enemy would have to be able to hear it.

get it?

No were talking about enemies, If your on one team and the other team is right by you they can here you and if it your own team you can hear from all over like a communicator. Am i right????

The simple truth is Frankie didn't say HOW they were implementing proximity voice, only that they were.

My guess would be... "Yes". I think you're right. I think that's the way it will be implemented.

no.. that wouldn't work. simply because the Master Chief, as said in the books, can turn off his external communications. the enemy wouldn't be able to hear them outside his suit.

  • 06.11.2004 9:33 PM PDT

SB-117

i think proximity doesnt apply to allies.

Oh, I'm sure Bungie can do whatever they like regardless of what the books say. They're likely more concerned about what would make the multi-play more fun then sticking to some poorly written novels.

.. i highly doubt they'll disregard the realism of the game, and they'll work around the books. the books were -not- poorly written, and in fact, were all very good reads, with the exception of The Flood.

I think its what crimtonic said. Like a proximity mine, if you are by it, it will explode. If your are near someone you can talk to them

Yes they are. They're a very light read with enlarged fonts to pad the book making it appear lengthier then it is and feels more like something intended for grade school. Nylund is not a very descriptive narrator and that's very important to me.

I couldn't get past the first chapter of Fall of Reach and went back to reading the Song of Ice and Fire series.

Nylund is a wonderful narrator. he fully describes the enviroments in cases they need, and he made an entire prequel to Halo, that suit it perfectly. Bungie made a killing off of these books, and i doubt they'd completely change the fact that the Master Chief can keep his communication internal, for something they could easily work around.
