Xbox Live: Most likely 16 players. Any more than that does not seem likely.
System Link: Is available for multiplayer and co-oprative matches. 16 players will most likely be maximum.
Split Screen: Split Screen will be available in Halo 2 just like in the last Halo. You will be able to play co-op, multiplayer and possibly even Xbox Live on split screen in Halo 2.

Yep! Its in! Over Live as well

"Four player split-screen is still in. You can play 4 people with one Xbox Live name - the 3 others will be guests if they don't have live accounts and all 4 players can have their own headsets. "

ive heard, and these are strictly rumors, that they will tweak the XBOX LIVE service itself to accomodate halo 2's massive 32 person multiplayer. can n e one confirm this?

I think where misinformation comes from is the quote that 16 xboxes can be system linked at once. It was first believed this meant 16x4 = bignumber, but it really only means each person can have his own tv for 16player max. now, they have not officalized 16 player max, it could certainly go up, but they weren't going to sound enthuastic about it. also remember, the more players means even bigger maps with the same obsessive attention to detail which takes time away from building more smaller maps, etc, etc. Bungie is doing their best to make it a perfect game. if 32 players doesn't make it a perfect game, it won't happen ;)

(i love the splitscreen on live =) )
