My guess is as good as yours, even though I read all three.

Apparently, the Covenant think Humans are some kind of disgrace or something to their "gods"

They want the 'Halo.' But I tell them: 'No! No Halo! For you, only the 'Frenzy'! The 'Frenzy' and maybe some 'Munch'

The books actually don't tell us. that's always been a huge mystery. The first transmission from the covenant was "Your destruction is at the will of the gods; we are just their instraments", or something along those lines. Strange... Hopefully, it will be revealed in Halo 2.

The prophets declared the humans "an affront to the gods" and therefore plunged the Covenant into a holy war against humanity. Seeing as how the Prophets are a sort of connection to the forerunners, they are the leaders and so the lower ranks must obey them.

That term "an affront to the gods"does not really make all that much sense, because the Covenant do not worship the forerunners themselves. They covet them and view them as the pinnacle of a perfect society that they must achieve as a state of unity. They constantly search for forerunner artifacts, such as Halo. Maybe they do worship some strange deities of some sort, but if they do, I must have missed it both times I read all three books.

If you want to know more about the story, just use the link from the homepage to get to Halo's story. You will find enough info to keep you busy for quite a while.

When they declared war on us they said something like this "Your destruction is the will of the gods and we are their instrument." They don't like us.

I think this really sums it all up. No explanation really needed. All religions get into pointless confilcts for no good reason.

" Your destruction is the will of the gods, and we are their instrument. "

My theory (probably wrong though):

The covenant worship the forerunners greatness yes?

The humans dont...

The covenant reverse engineer ALL of there technology from the forerunners.

The humans dont...

The covenant find out that humans create their own technology and try to "better" forerunner technology...They find this blasphemous...they hate humans and they must be eradicated..."Your destuction is the will of the gods blah blah blah!" Covies are real bastards!

(its not OUR fault that we're more innovative than the covies you know!)

So......Its annoying phrases pissed them off, and even after trying to fry it and it not exploding and saying more phrases pissed them off so much that they wanted to kill the first thing they saw....... and it was a human.

I rest my case :)

I know that this has been discussed a bunch of times before but what i think is that the only reason the covenant are in a war with us is because they feel threatened by us. not militarily cause they pretty much own us in space battles but because the prophets know that humans are actually the forerunners. think about it, it explains why they would be trying to erradicate us in the first place. the prophets only have power over all the other races because of their supposed "connection" to the forerunners and if all the other races in the covenant realized that the humans were actually the forerunners then it would through the prophets out of power which is something they don't really want to happen.

I thought it was summit to do with how the forerunner were putting together all of the species together into one covenant, however something happenned and they didn't finish their work. Humans were left out, so the Covenant think, "hang on, they must have not put the humans in cuz they're bad and evil, they must be destroyed!"

Can't remember where that came from but obviously it must be wrong as no1 else has posted it here. Hey ho, it's a theory, maybe not a good one.
