I was thinking that if we made a thread or post, why can't we delete it, when you made the post by accident?

You can edit your post. Use that to delete any post you made by accident.

im looking for that button right now.....

all kidding aside, it would be nice but the moderators take care of that kind of thing, so the system isn't abused.

We don't need someone deleting a prospering thread they made just because they don't like what people are saying.
Other people may find it useful/interesting but then the disgruntled owner comes in a removes it.

For now, the mods take care of that kinda thing if you ask nice.

That doesn't solve the problem, sometimes when people edit a post and cant delete they simply post " . ". This most likely leads to it being reported as spam. I think a delete button would be useful for posts not sure about threads.

Then post a short message saying you posted by accident so all the wanna-be-ninja suck-ups dont report you for spam.

Some people still mark it as spam as its off-topic. I still think that a delete button for that purpose would be useful but not for a thread.

It doesnt matter. Luckily, the spam system isnt automated. The moderators make the final decision on whether something is spam. Most of the mods here (Im not sure about Achilles) are intelligent enough to realiize that an editted thread with "posted here by mistake" in the body of the thread isn't spam.

Its another unnecessary feature.

Either way: If you make a thread/post (even by accident), it's no longer yours, it's the community's. Want to change something? Edit your post. Want to delete a thread, ask a moderator.

Trying something once will increace your chances of success, because you tried it. Try someting twice, and your chances increase yet again - seeing as you've done it. Try something a few thousand times, and your chances of success is exponentially increased; this increase would likely provide success every time

One thing you guys seem to forget, is that the mods no longer have the ability to delete threads; although, I am not to sure about the Master Mods. One, because it was unused; and two, because of the 'Incident'. So yea, as far as I know, the mods no longer have the ability to delete threads, only Web Users do.

As for the topic, I would hate to have a 'Your very own delete thread button.'. For quiet a few reasons. Mainly, people would spam the hell out of a forum, then delete any trace of it. If your reasons for a delete button are because you made a post by accident, edit the post. Yes, I understand the thread may be reported, but that is a good thing. The thread will either be locked or moved. Reporting something as spam isn't a bad thing, it will help no matter how you look at it. For example, you make a thread in the Community Forum that is supposed to be in the Halo 3 Forum. If enough people report the thread, then the mods will get a notice to look at the thread, and see that it needs a move; so they move it. Another example, would be posting a thread in the Flood. Whether by accident or on purpose. Then, editing your post saying it was a mistake. When people report it as spam, the mods will get a notice, check out the thread, and lock the thread to stop any trolls.

Like he said, when you hit that "submit" button, whatever you have written is no longer yours, but the communities. You can't "own" what you've submitted.

This is the same reason why you don't "own" the threads you create. People get in trouble when they say, "Get off my thread!!"

Hopefully that will help you to think about what you're going to post, and not just post it because you can always fall back upon the "delete" button.

I see your point, but if you make an accidental bump, and you find that after you post, you'll be spammed when you didn't mean it.
