I would love to, but I'm about to leave for the weekend, so I would not be able to participate. :(

science? ok, what's your favourite element on the periodic table?

  • 01.07.2005 12:18 PM PDT

We’ve watched while the stars burned
Out, and creation played in reverse.
The Universe freezing in half-light.
Once I thought to escape.
To end a master, step out of the
Path of collapse. Escape would make us God.
Yet I cannot help but remember one enigma,
A hybrid, elusive destroyer.
This is the one mystery I have not solved.
The only element unaccounted for.

The univere is 156 billion light years in diameter.

Should the universe continue to accelerate in it's expansion, or rather stretching, would it eventually reach a speed great enough to tear apart atoms? Wouldn't the friction generate by this infinite expansion create heat? And why di we care, knowing that there are more pressing problems here on earth than a thing that won't affect any of us, and likely will occur after the destruction of the human race anyway? Why do we care?

Its more like 15 billion visible light years. And because of this crazy thing people in the know (i.e. Eienstein) like to call Dark Energy (or matter), the Universe will strech itself apart. In about 14 billion years.

Nothing has ever interested me more then black holes. There's something about just how mysterious they are that drives me to them. I always gobble up info on them left and right.

Blacks hole are pretty interesting, how so much mass can be condensed into such a small area and how they warp gravity. Wonder what a blackhole would like on the inside. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.......

Hahahaha. In my science class, our teacher posed to us the question "What causes diffusion?" . People began giving their thoughts on the subject, and one particularly dense individual raised his hand, confident in his answer, and proceeded to tell us all how it was caused by millions of black holes. Oh man, I have never laughed so hard in my life. The teacher simply told him to sit down. To this day whenever that teacher asks us a question like that someone says black holes just for the hell of it.

the thing with black holes is that all of our current lknowledge of them is almost 100% guess work. so these things that scientists say and talk about in publications is mostly theory etc. however, this is not to say its completely worthless, all of the great ideas start as theory. :)

personally i love the news about 'warping' or 'teleportation'. basically scientists have succeded in transfering tiny attributes of known atoms across distances of up to 1-2 cm in laboratory conditions. you might be thinking 'big deal' 1-2cm is nothing, but this is actual teleportation of physical properties, ie just like in all the sci-fi films. total truth, look it up.

what this means for technology is basically that quantum computers are in the pipeline for developement in about 20 -30 years, and thats just development. You see, 2cm is all you need because that can easily be incorporated into PC towers and stuff. Current computer technology only really uses silicone chips for storing sending informaiton but quantum computers will be able to transfer data at an astonishing rate, since it teleported very short distances. here is a link on this amazing stuff:

also the site space.com which is where my above link came from is teeming with loads of info about scientific stuff etc

The law of energy conservation rules the increase of heat out, right?

The thing I still don't understand is why there was a slight amount more matter than antimatter created in the few milliseconds after the big bang.

I have no idea why the crafts were not in the calculated locations, but if it's in the direction of the sun, are you sure they didn't calculate the sun's gravity corectly?

I never thought about using teleportation in computers. That's a neat concept. Have they managed to "teleport" living cells?

I imagine that cells would be too big, but I don't know how they teleport whatever they are teleporting

So what about the controlling plasma with magnetic fields? (like in Halo). My Chemistry book said something about scientists working on it... i though about Halo when i read that and thought it was interesting... I don't what branch of science that would fall under but if i wasnt able to be a game programmer i would want to work on controlling plasma in magnetic fields or work on making a flying saucer without a combustion engine...

My theory on the curve of the universe and time travel goes like this:
First off, I combined knowledge from several theories to create my own. I believe that there are many parrellel dimensions running at different points in time. As you know, space and time is curved. I believe the super density of a black hole may push down far enough to tear a whole into a parellel dimension, formin a white hole from which you can travel to and from dimensions. Eventually, it will be prepared, so you could get stuck. Also, there is no way how to tell which dimension you fall into.

You can definently control plasma with magnetic fields, it's just you cant "shoot" the plasma at other people cuz it would cool down REALLY fast. Controlling plasma, and making it not touch anything is science fact though

Devil is Double is Deuce and Joker always trumps Deuce.

If we go back and change the past, will the changed past be our past or will it be someone else's past? And if the past has been changed before by someone from our universe, will we know? Are we currently living in someone's alternate universe?

God, I love time paradoxes. ;)

We will change a different universe's future if you mucked with the past, if you like my theory.

If you want to change the past change the present and hope that someone remembers you.
